Default 2010 Summer Bahamas Trip

Was there a group decision about a summer trip to the Bahamas? I seem to recall Abaco being mentioned. Lets get this thread rolling again and see if theres any interest.

It is about time to get this one together. I had thrown some dates out there and got a few takers but not sure who all is in at this point.

I am heading over to Foxtown (Abacos) Thursday July 29 with a return planned for Aug. 6. I will be heading out of St Lucie inlet, clearing customs at Walkers, then running down to Foxtown. The run to Walkers is 108 miles and then around 30 to get to Foxtown. There is fuel at Grand Cay if you can not make it all the way on one tank. The way back is straight accrossed the banks and home. I have not needed fuel on the way home since the boat is normally much lighter.

The weather may become a factor and adjust the dates slightly but that is the schedule I have currently.

I can reserve rooms for those who would like at Ronnie's place. http://www.ronaldsrentals.com/millies_guest_house.htm

The accomadations are more fish camp than resort but the food is good, they have fuel at the dock, and the fishing is great in that area. Cost was around $75 a night the last time I was there. Judy will cook your catch or you can bring the stuff you need to cook and be self supporting. I normally mix it up and cook some and get lazy some.

Please let me know who is going and any room needs. All are welcome to follow me across or of course you can plan your own crossing from the inlet of your choice. I know most folks who cross to the Abacos from Palm Beach normally run through West End or even head to Spanish Cay to clear.

If you are going, add a quick post here. If you are going to cross with me and/or would like a room shoot me a PM along with your post here and it should avoid me getting too confused.

Thanks,
Ken

For me there was a wrench thrown in the works, but I am still hoping to go. It will be my first crossing, so I would like to be within radio distance of another boat if possible. My dates should be flexible.
Please keep me in the loop.

I read on another board that Guy Harvey has bought and intends to reopen Bimini Big Game Resort next month. Anyone have any info? Might make for a easy destination.

Walkers is NOT back up and running and it looks like it will stay this way for a while.

The airstrip is still active and customs is still there. No fuel, no hotel, no food, no real docks. There are some pilings but thats about it.

One of the reasons I clear there is the low number of folks on the island makes it easier most of the time. Less traffic equals less time spent on clearing.

Fuel is available at nearby Grand Cay for those who need it. There are some Hotel rooms on Grand cay if anyone would rather stay in that area. I prefer to head down to Foxtown though, and will need to do that regardless. I could stop off in Grand for a night or 2 on the way though.

We are in mid June. If we are going to make this trip work we need to get it together pretty quick. This should be a fun trip. I will go regardless, but some extra company is always a plus.

Who is in?

Heading to Foxtown (Abacos) Thursday July 29 with a return planned for Aug. 6. I will be heading out of St Lucie inlet for anyone that wants to cross with me.
