Default I/O To Bracketed outboard.

Does anyone have any experience turning a 20' I/O into a bracketed outboard design? What were the nightmares of the conversion/restoration and how is the performance of the new design? I am thinking of undertaking a project like this and don't want to wander in totally blind.

Thanks in advance.

Not to sound like a jerk, but do a search on brackets and your questions will be mostly answered. There have been some great threads and real world information from different members. You'll probally be able to narrow down your concerns after the research. Good luck.

Thanks, I have searched the bracket library and there are a lot of Bracket discussions that don't really have anything to do with my particular application. I was hoping that someone who had been through the process on a 20' might be able to lend a little inside info to a newbie before I pull the trigger on a project that is too much for me or won't give me the boat I want. I would hate to destroy a classic Seacraft hull doing modifications that are known to be a disaster.

Check out Don Herman's web page for ideas. You could build a center seat and/or a nice hatch for storage where the engine was. Might want to use composite material to minimize/offset rearward CG shift due to a bracket. Also if it's a 20, I wouldn't use an engine any heavier than a 140 Zuke or 150 E-Tec/Optimax, to avoid adverse CG shift.

First part of the pics are building a bracket . . . the other is conversion. What is your specific application?
