That motor has a sweet spot at 3900-4000 rpm will
burn about 12-14 gph depending on the load. Anything
over that it will drink like a fish.

I have a 200 EFI Merc and noticed the same thing - my cruise 3400/3600 - at 4000 the motor pitch changes obviously and without really knowing I'm sure the consumption as well. At modest cruise 3400 -3800 I get 2 to 2.5 mpg in flat water, that I have checked well. I would expect similar for that motor.

these are better on fuel than carb'd engines...

fuel consumption depends on how the boat is propped-prop it wrong,it'sgonna suck fuel like a jet,and you'r gonna detonate the engine...
prop the boat to run at the top rpm-with a full load

10% rule-use this for 2stroke carb'd engines-meaning-250hp-10% is 25-that's about what this engine is gonna burn for fuel @ full throttle, figure aprox 50% less @ cruise speed-again depending on propping correctly-10-12gph...this is for carb'd engines-again,fuel injected engines are gonna be a little better...
