Default 1987 20SF with Yamaha F115

So i got tired of trying to fix my old mariner so i bit the bullet and got a new engine for my boat. My marina had a used 07' F115 with 34 hours on it so i bought that and they just put it on.

I just got the boat to put gas in her then i gave it back to the marina to start it up and make sure everything is working correctly. Im hoping to have the boat in a day or 2 and ill make sure to post up some more pictures and some performance numbers.

Very interested in hearing performance numbers when you get it out on the water. Trying to decide between a 115 "whatever" and a 140 Suzuki.

Before you get done with them that motor looks mounted pretty low - hard to go back if you know what I mean

Yz congrats on the motah. ESD's point on the motor height will be very important to getting the most from the motor. You're theoretically 100 lbs overweight. Measure the anti-cavitation plate parallel to keel. Better be at least an 1-1/2" above the keel or you'll not get what you deserve from that motor. You might be able to go up another notch more without blowing out.

Good luck. Don't forget to post your perfomance numbers so others may learn from your experience. Cheers

Well I've used the boat twice so far. The anti cavitation plate is even with the keel but when I'm on a plane the motor is buried a little so I think it does need to come up a hole. Right now I'm running a 17p stainless yamaha prop. With me my buddy, fishing gear and 35 gallons of gas I was running 33mph at 5600rpms. I am able to cruise 25 mph at 4400rpm.

So far I am very happy with the engine. I am perfectly happy with the speed I'm getting and it feels like a very strong motor. I may play around with props some when I get the money. I want to try a 15p and see what that does.

It is deffinitly slower then the 200 mariner but I like this new setup 10x more. Besides living in new England I don't get too many times when I can go over 30 in a 20 foot boat.

When i first decided to go with the 115 i was a little worried about loosing almost half the horsepower of the 200 but after getting it in the water and cruising around, i am happy as can be. Ill make sure to get some more pictures next time im out.

Today i had to shuttle some people over to the next island over. There was 8 people and food for the weekend. Even with the 115 i still got right up on a plane and cruised over 23mph at 4500 rpm. At wot i was getting 5200rpm. I thought it was pretty impressive for a 115.

Thumbs up

Sounds like your doing really well and sounds really decent, especially when you put a heavy load on there. Thanks for the info!

Hey I recognize that picture... Did Glyns or MM do the swap? I asked them if they had anything 115-200 and I did not hear about that little gem. I also said no more than $3k though, so my own fault.
