Hope it is ok to post this since my boat is not a "classic"
On my 2003 23' Seacraft center console the cooler is under a lift up seat molded into the front part of the console. I don't think it has any insulation and therefore does not hold ice very long at all. Anyone ever drill holes and spray foam between the inner and outer walls of this "cooler"? I think there is about a 1" gap there. The seal between the lift up seat and the cooler below is not tight at all either. Is there a better solution than sawzalling this cooler piece off the console and buying a real cooler in its place? My last boat was a 21' and had a separate cooler with tie down straps to the deck. That held ice for days. This one is a terrible design and I hate warm drinks! Thanks for any ideas. |

I prefer the loose cooler also. If you spray use the low expansion stuff. I've seen the other buckle house door frames.

X 2. Be patient and go easy with that stuff. It'll dimple the flat surfaces.

Has anyone tried a Seacraft cooler hack?

This is a less expensive option than modifying the boat. The way I transport 100+lbs of ice for fishing trips is in these soft sided coolers. You can transport the ice in these bags and add ice as needed to the front box (or store your drinks in them). They are easy to load/unload and the empty bags store inside my console. If your buddy needs ice you can just drop a bag overboard and they can pick it up. I didn't get this exact brand of cooler, but they look identical and can hold approx 15 - 20lbs of ice each. I carry 6 of them. There was a JOB LOT special $15 each.

Careful using that can spray foam: that stuff is open cell and soaks up water like a SPONGE.... can get pretty gnarly and harbor mold etc.
