Has bombardier worked out the kinks on the FICHT outboards since they bought OMC? I am aware that it was a largely unstable system and there were lots of warrantied blown FICHT motors... I know a guy who replaced two 175hp of these babies on his aquasport (one each season, one warrantied, the next the dealer would not honor)- blew the piston out the block twice. I had thought that the flaw in the whole line of FICHT outboards was the reason OMC was having financial difficulties?? Am I missing something here? I would steer clear of that motor, if you have good luck with them, god bless you- Anyone have any insight?

OMC went chapter 11 a few years ago and the Rude/Johnson lines were picked up by Bombadier (trains, commuter jets, SeaDoo, SkiDoo, Rotax, and a bunch of other decent brands). The boat lines were bought by Genmar.

Bombadier supposedly really went over these engines and changed a LOT. Again, "supposedly" got them fixed right too. To the point where they are getting a lot of good press (not hard to get) and a lot of good reviews from those that own them (alot harder to get)...

Si, I'm waiting to hear more but everything that I have head about the 02 and newer engines is that they are great...

Dido to what JohnR says, Bombadier is trying hard to get the good name back and has succeded from what I've seen and heard. Stay away from from the late '90 models unless they are carbureted ('97-'99). Regardless from what any dealer will tell you they are "unfixable", that's why no one will warrenty them.
I kills me when I see so many dealer's trying to pawn these bad motors off to the unsuspecting.

Hey Hooper,
Get a Navman FlowMeter for your boat, $149.00 from Boaters World. Works great easy to use and very accurate. Out of the box mine is only ever off by a half a gallon from what is said I burned to what I put in at the fuel dock . Takes the guess work out of what you burn per hour, you'll be amazed at what 500rpm will do for gph !

Congrats Hooper, thats what I want to repower with. Ive been waiting until Bombardier got it right, and I here they are. Last year the Ficths came out with the bombardier sticker behind the cowling if it does'nt have the sticker stay away from them, prior to 2002 they were blowing up big time.I run a 15 inch pitch on my 225 now, sounds small but I get 5600 at WOT.i REALLY LIKE THEM NEW FITCHS,ENJOY.rs.
