Just my two cents on the 225 two stroke from Suzuki...

I know someone who has that engine on a 23 SC and it is a friggin' pig on fuel! I cannot remember exactly what he used in a day of striper fishing, but it made me sit up and take notice. Something like, 40 gallons burned when most of the day they spent drifing eels...! Yikes! Stay AWAY!

On the other hand, once again, I am very happy with the Evinrude 225 I bought new last year.

I have a 225 Suzy on my 23 Seacraft and I am
very happy with the performance. I get at
cruise 31 mph and burn 10 Gal per hr. It
uses much less oil and gas then my older
225 and newer 250 EFI Yamaha. Fuel Consumption
has alot to do with how the boat is proped. It
also idols much better than the O66 engines.

Saw these today on Bargian Trader for less.

I also have a Suzuki 225 EFI (1998 model) on my 23 Mako and I have no complaints. I run 43mph at WOT (5200rpm) and don't really notice that I burn excess fuel or oil. The engine has about 480hours on it and has had minimal service problems.

Hey ZUP

I agree with Scott and Mark. Regardless of what manufactuer you choose, go with the 250 hp. I've had the 200hp & 225hp motors on my 23' over the years. The added torque and top end makes a difference. With the 17 S/S Viper prop I turn (5600 rpm WOT 48 mph).

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to go with the 250 Yamaha HPDI. My decision was made easy when the price of the 250 went down and the 300 went up. I going to take the extra money an have an enclosure put on since it is getting cold here. Also, starting December 1 the motors come with a three year extended warranty for a total of 5 worry free years.

Thanks
Mike

Zup,

Not to throw a monkey in your wrench but stop buy your local Suzuki dealer and price out a 250hp 4 stroke. Its a nice thing when at idle the only sound heard is the pisser hitting the water. Either way, you can't go wrong. If it was me, I'd go for the 300 just for the cool factor alone.

The local Suzuki dealer here was out "testing" a new Carolina Skiff 28' with a 4 stroke 250. If it wasn't for the telltale, I wouldn't have known it was ruinning. He claimed a WOT speed of 51 kts on that flat-bottom skiff in a light chop. He also said $17.2K rigged, plus propellor cost. Too rich for my blood.
