I had a 1997 F-150 with 2 wheel drive 4.6 automatic did a ample job but I did burn our a transmission at 90,000 due to towing 40 times a year. Just got a F-250 Super Duty 5.4 automatic and it has made a big difference both in breaking and in power train. Oh by the way I have Kodiak Stainless Steel surge brakes on my trailer and I would Definitely have that put on your trailer actually you are illegal with that much weight with out breaks, well at least in Florida not sure in other states.
