Default 23 Sceptre questions

Working through my punchlist on my new to me 1976 23 Sceptre and had one or two questions (so far!).

Steering wheel:
Anybody go for a 13.5" wheel as opposed to the standard 15"?
Had a 13.5 on my 18, which worked great. but that was a much smaller boat.
New Seastar hydraulic steering for a bracket mounted 225 Etec.
Just looking for a little more room around the helm.
Looking at the gemlux three spoke with the deluxe knob.

Canvas question:
There are snaps all down the perimeter of the windshield. Was there originally a cover of some kind for the cockpit? Like a mooring cover or summat? Boat now has a 3 bow bimini.
Wondering if anybody has any pics of Sceptre original canvas.

My 23 had clear side curtains from the factory and a full camping enclosure from the top back that snapped down to the gunnels. It came from the factory with a navy style top and we changed to a bimini after a couple of years.

Why are you changing it out?!
Wasn't that the new one you put on after your rehab last year?

I’ve got the 13.5” gemlux on my Sceptre. I love it. I use them on all my boats. The 13.5 is a better fit than the 15 I think.

Nice. That's exactly what I was thinking.
Did you get the Gemlux with the integral knob?

With the straight vertical mounted helm on the Sceptre (as opposed to a center console, angled helm), not sure if the knob will interfere with my legs or uh.. other body parts.
Loved the knob on my 18 tho.

It’s a Gemco w/knob but it can come off. SeaStar makes an inexpensive wedge adapter that gives you a good angle. I may still have the one I took off. I’ll check this weekend.
