Nick you will need to thru hull fitting scoop thru the hull of the boat near the stern. You want to mount it as far back and as close to the center line as you can. This way it will still work as your running. Be sure to install a shut off valve. The pump itself can be mounted anywhere. Be sure to mount it where it can be easy to get to when it needs service, and be sure its out of the weather.

Nick I'm not familiar with the layout of the newer boats. I have a truhull in my bait well that runs right thru the hull. This is where I would tie in my pick up for the pump in to. Then like Joe says the pump can go anywhere. You do need a scoop thru hull and a good seacock for a shut off if you should break a hose. I'm using the old washdown system for the time being(bucket )

Does the scoop type of water intake detract from performance? Can it affect the transducer? Can you use a non-scoop thru-hull? Finally, where exactly would you put it?

The scoop would not take away from performance. It could foul up your transducer reading and should be mounted away from it. You can use a plain thru hull but it will not work right if the boat is moving.

I thought about the regular through-hull. Considering the fishing I'm likely to do in the next couple of years, I don't see me making a mess that requires a washdown underway. Unless, of course, you drink too much on the cocktail cruise and hurl.
As previously discussed, I sealed every through-hull fitting except the rear drain plug. How big of a tank for water would make it worth installing and foregoing the future leaker. Reminding you that we use the 23 only in fresh water. Comments?

Thanks guys for all the great info. I went thru the transom well thru hull fitting and plumbed to the center console. Then mounted the pump to the console floor and wired it to a seperate switch. Everything worked out great and it's pumping fine.
So, I have a one foot length of hose hanging down the transom for a pickup. Will screw it down in the future with a stainless clamp. Nick |
