What are the dates of mini season? If I remember it is normally the last week in July. Perhaps I can move my trip up a week. (Of course that will mean no lobster for me since I don't dive in Florida) but weather should be nice and fishing is always good.

Maybe we can get a few folks to make the trip. I can certainly put this together for anyone who would like to leave from Stuart. I should be able to get some rooms held for us and will be glad to have some company on the crossing.

Susan just married into the Currie clan from Green Turtle so we may be an option too

Lets put it together.....

I am looking at Thursday July 29 leaving St Lucie inlet and return Apprx Friday August 6. Of course the weather will play a role as we get closer to the time but July/August are normally good as long as no Hurricanes are in the area.

If we go those dates who will make the trip? How many rooms would you need?

I would be looking to leave around the 22nd or 23rd of July, returning around the 30th.

If nothing else, maybe we can get together for a oouple of days of fishing.

As we were talking last night, I was wondering what the situation is for room availablity in the summer. That is apparently the season and I will have the ability to sleep on our 20 CC, I know damn cleaver bastad I am. What I kinda wanted to know is will we have the ability to drive up to say Green Turtle Club and get a room without making reservations months in adavnce - keeping in mind the current economy and recent changes in the fish regs over there - these are game changers. Also what is say the room charge at Foxtown, a little hotel in New Plymouth apparently isn't any cheaper than the Club but Susan wants to visit the new relatives kinda, which free's me up for fishing which is a really good thing. If I can get a room every couple days sure makes life easier - I will share my ingenious sleepin set-up for a 20CC after some initial testing but it appears a queen size will work fine and storage isn't an issue either.

I can talk to the room situation at Fox Town but not Green Turtle.

Rooms go for $75 a night with dock space and can sleep 3-4 people. Most have a double and some add a single bed, I normally bring an air bed and 2 crew members (total 3 adults).

They do have a web site: http://www.ronaldsrentals.com/index.htm

When looking at the rooms there is only 1 with the loft as in the photo and the photos are from some time ago.

As far as availability, I normally let them know I am going to be there but never had an issue getting a room. Late July and Early Aug are the busy time but even with that it is normally not a problem. For this one, I would take a quick inventory in late May to firm up those that are still making the trip and then call and reserve the needed rooms. At the same time if we may need an extra for a night or 2 I can find out how full they will be.

Last year they had 2 boats + mine when I arrived and 2 more pulled in as I was leaving. With that, there were rooms avaialble the entire time I was there. Foxtown seems to be the overflow for the area around Walkers (Grand Cay) and as the hotels up there fill up folks run down to Foxtown.

I think there are 12 rooms where I normally stay. There are also a few houses out on one of the Keys that you can rent for $1500 a week but I have never stayed there. The lack of HVAC seems to be an issue for me.

Bottom line, in May/June we should know what the room situation is based on how many folks will travel with us and how many folks have reserved a room outside of our group.

That looks pretty nice, we're pretty basic too - I was thinking of stopping up there on the way to Green Turtle and not try that run in 1 day. Then on the way back kinda bumping along a couple places.
