What's the number we need to call to notify the rangers that we will be camping?

How did the new camping gear work out? Besides the stuff you took with you what things do you wish you had taken?

We also bought new camping gear...

Everything worked perfect- we did not need the 2 burner stove or the 2 mantle lantern- single burner for coffee with only 2 of us-the lantern was used 10 minutes as we have other more eye friendly lights(these factors would be for 2 people)- Susan cooks the taters/onions and the squash/onions pre-wrapped in foil on the grill before the steaks, so no stove needed. We got a large plastic sealable tub and all the plates, silverware, salt pepper, zip locks and that stuff goes in that- 1 item to the beach and extra table space- got a nifty plastic folding "Cafe" table in the Garden Center at WalMart $20-excellent and recommended for all. Tables really help and its an issue we need to deal with with this size group as we could use a bigger one or 2- IM Ken if you have one. Tent stakes have been an issue in the past -sand- I got 4 12" metal stakes at Sports Auth $3.50 (only place I found them) and they worked very good-standard 6" are too short and don't hold-MANDATORY !!!!! The cots worked great as well, I slept great and the ones we got are 16" high and that left all the room under them for storage and no sand in the bed. We have an 8'x 8' tent, they fit although close, got those at the same site as the tent but your not in there much. Another major highlight- I got a little shovel at Ace Hardware approx 36", light as a feather and that worked great for fire pit and moving the wood around- it also was a crutch to help getting my fat ass out of my low chair later in the evening - otherwise that would been an ugly roll and flop fiasco . A piece of indoor/outdoor for the tent front for sand. We have learned alot the last couple years, thats why I offered my phone # and Susans #, you always want to bring too much stuff and we did it again too. For anyone else looking for a small tent-I posted the link to ours earlier, you have to make sure the rain fly does not come down over the windows, the seabreeze kills you, it has to blow through. We will be going to Anclote this Friday, I guess Susan enjoyed herself. We will have more info on bugs, but I would recommend a Thermol Cell(with refill) and 3D UltraThon bug stuff, the 3D is the only one I have found to be effective on noseeum's. They were not a problem this weekend and I will have more info next week specific to Anclote, although I don't expect a big problem with the seabreeze. Sorry to be so long but I hope this helps.

I used to be able to buy that 3M Ultrathon at Walmart but they don't have it there anymore. It is hands down the best bug repellant. What store are you buying it at.

This is the new stuff out by Repel. Plant Based & It's non greasy. I have used it in areas with No-See-ums and it worked. It was written up in Fla Sportsman. Get it at Walley World about $7

- The first truly effective, plant-based insect repellent on the market, Repel Lemon Eucalyptus has been proven to be effective against mosquitoes, deer ticks and no-see-ums for up to six hours.

-Derived from Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, a renewable resource, this non-greasy lotion and pump have a pleasant scent and are perfect for the whole family.
Oil of lemon eucalyptus, in addition to DEET and Picaridin, has been recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for effective protection against mosquitoes that may carry the West Nile virus.

-Repel Lemon Eucalyptus is the only personal insect repellent product commercially available in the US made with oil of lemon eucalyptus.

Thats where I found it first, I found some cream somewhere but couldn't find the spray which I liked to use on my hair. Thanks Chuck I have seen that, although I rarely have to use anything and have 2 creams that are about full.

Rode up the river yesterday and had a beer with Carl and Jeanne Moesly at there house on the river. I had just returned from trolling and the boat was clean so I thought I would show it off. They both said it was great to have a Seacraft at the dock again, Carl crawled all around it and sat behind the console ready to go. Jeanne is working on a scrap book of their years racing and building boats and plans to bring it to the hotel for everyone to look at. Be sure she shows you the pictures of Carl in the water, I'll leave the story to them...

Jeanne suggested since no one knows each other that we should have some kind of name tags. I'll pick up a pack of stick on name tags and a Sharpe for those of you who don't make your own.
