There is something wrong with the way that boat is rigged. It is sitting way to low in the back. This is the waterline in mine with 50 gal of gas in it

Just my opinion, but that seacraft, for a 23' is sitting to low. If it was a 20 or less, I have seen them sit a little low in the back, but that is too low for a single engine 23.

This is strictly an opinion here... that bracket doesn't look like it could take much in the way of a sea and bouncing around- it doesnt look well secured either. My Gil Bracket is fastened with 18 half inch wide stainless bolts. It appears this one has twelve or less. I would inquire as to who fabricated it and if they have made these types of things before; instead of investing in an untested bracket.

I don't know much about brackets, but to me that thing is mounted pretty low on the transom. In the picture Rich posted, it looks like the bottom corners are about 2 inches from the hull bottom. Is that right? And the hull does sit awfully low in the back. You put 2 guys back there trying to work a fish and that engine is half submerged. Add a 2 foot chop and the engine is underwater! Seems like a flotation bracket is the way to go.

At 10,000 is this boat even worth looking at. How expensive are floatation brackets? The transom on this boat was redone early 90s and I would want the t-top back on it. He said he has some other motors that he could put on it. If there are no other problems besides that bracket and how low the boat sits.....what is a fair price?
Thanks for all the insight!

That bracket almost looks like it was made for a different boat / transom angle ..

Buried somewhere are threads on brackets....cost of a good float bracket (aluminum) with platform and floatation chamber for a twin setup is around $1500 to 2000 and the fiberglass bracket $3-4,000

Thats a deal for sure... as long as the decks arent soft, and the boat checks out with the surveyor. You'd be looking at probably 17K+ up in the northeast, although i know you can get boats a little cheaper down there as they are used all year long and sit in the water twice as long. That seems a fair market price to me... anyone else take a guess at its value? BUC bluebook is always waaaay off so i dont know what to think of that thing. What could you pick up this boat for where you live?

The guy wants 15,000 if he switches the motor to a 99 Yamaha 250. He also said a guy from Key West was thinking hard about the boat. This boat would go for more in South Carolina if it is in good condition. I am in the middle ground between Florida and New England prices.

I would be less concerned about the engine than the way it sits with 500#s hanging off that bracket and the way that transom looks closed off.

If I were you and considering that boat, I would worry about the bracket and consider adding a different floatation bracket (higher) and buying the boat without power and adding the new power of your choice, after a floataion bracket.

If he's adding 3K to the boat for that motor and you can get it for 7K without a motor and repower with a new Ficht, Merc SW, or Yami SSII motor, it would be money better spent than 10K with the old Mariner or certainly 15K with a 4 year old Yammi...

John R, good point. But not only are the current engines 8 and 4 years old, respectively, they are Florida engines, so even more hours on them than what we would see up here.

Buy it w/o power and put on a new bracket.
