Re: Keeper bass
John,
Something tells me Team Ave Maria has this season locked up. Those Sea Monkey guys don't have a chance in competing with a slob like that! (Another one of those inside jokes) My congratulations to Mike for a job well done. |

Re: Keeper bass
Moooooooooo, wow that is a fat sow. We only dream about those fish down here. Once in a blue moon are 45+ inch fish taken in mid-bay, chesapeake, where I fish.

Re: Keeper bass
Nice fish Gordon - nice boat too! What's your top end? I have a similar set up with ttop and canvas - I was thinking the canvas was slowing me down a bit, but not sure. I am only getting about 35 knots max with a new 225 opti. I have a feeling something else is wrong (besides canvas and ttop! slowing me down).

Re: Keeper bass
Holy shit.....that is a huge Striper. I have to get my boat in the water
For all of you Boston folks, Guys were slaying the stripers off the Charlestown bridge tonight in front of the damn. The birds were working like crazy and the sidewalk on the bridge looked like a sashimi platter. |

Re: Keeper bass
Hi Eric-
I get 38.5kts at 5200 rpm's top end no matter how I trim, it tilt it, or whatever. That's with tabs up and about 3/4 full of fuel, about125 gallons. That, to me, is a lot of speed, but I supposed if I wanted to experiment with props I could squeak a bit more out of it. At 4500rpm's I am getting 29.5 kts and in good conditions, that gets me anywhere in a reasonable amount of time. When it's a bit sloppier, 4200 gives me 26kts. I can live with that. Getting ready for the big show at Chatham??? Have you heard of any schoolies yet? I want to go and play with them this year! -Hooper |

Re: Keeper bass
Ed - that was just outside of the harbor. Big Ass bass have been rolling over macs for 10 days now. Big schools of fish blew thru Rhody and the Cape to stay on that bait...

Re: Keeper bass
Hey Hoop,
Thanks for the info. I am still waiting for my "Smartcraft" to get fixed, so I don't know my RPM's yet. I do know when I pin it, I get about 36.5 knots on the GPS,full fuel (100 gallons) - I thought that was a bit slow, but now I feel a little better. I have a 17" pitch, going to try a 19" once I figure out the RPM's. Is that a 225 rude, or 200? Definitely getting ready for the Chatham season - I started working on the JC yesterday - putting in stern controls, autopilot, new fish finder, windows - big list. Still trying the get the 23' ready too - just need to finish the gin pole and the rod holder in the bow. I was watching videos last night from last season - got me all geared up! The only fish I have heard about have been on Jeffrey's - all harpoon fish.

Re: Keeper bass
Eric-
That's a 225 'rude. I had a charter today and blew to the Vineyard at 30 knots with ease. It really has been a great engine so far! |

Re: Keeper bass
Eric - a 23 SC and a JC? Nice taste in boats
Brad - interesting thought as to how your baits will work but bass like slow trolling 1.3-3 knts - usually the slower and we fish structure so a casuall 8kts troll in 300 ft of water is a little different ... Here is a pic showing some of the wooden lures made by guys from my bass site. Most of these are intended to be fished from shore but can also easlit be trolled shallow or deep (for us 35 feet is deep). and some more pics here: http://www.striped-bass.com/ps_raffle.shtml How deep can you get your stuff with wire or lead core line? I think they could kick some ass in some places if they can get deep enough and be actively jigged... [ June 19, 2003, 09:39 PM: Message edited by: John R ]
