Ha Fishmvy
Can’t really say exactly when, maybe someone else on the sight know exactly when but I do remember that sometime after Tracker bought the Co. they started using the newer composition materials. I remember looking at a cut out chunk of a transom and wondering, if this new stuff would really hold up or not. A lot of the boat builders were just starting to use the newer composition materials and I knew that I did not want to be their bata testing unit.
I will say though about your power choices that if I had a 21’ boat I would want to make my power plant as light a possible for many reasons. My first concern is safety a 21’ boat gives one a sense that you now can go anywhere you want that this boat although it is small, it is big enough to do anything. But, after as many trips as I have logged on small boats the ocean can be a very unforgiving place when winds and waves start picking up. I fished for 19 years on my 18’ boat and a friends 21’. On both boats we had seen some very concerning moments both of us really knew out boats, equipment, and always checked sea conditions. Keep it light and you will keep it safe.
By the way 225 is really overkill on that boat you can’t run it that hard my personal choice would be the 200
2 stroke.

I have been watching this thread since I have a 2003 21' Seacraft with a 200 HP Merc EFI. Obviously I burn a lot of fuel and will certainly consider a 4 stroke somewhere in the future. I have a 1997 Seacraft brochure that has the 23 and the 25 in it. It only mentions that the stringers are fiberglass with foam . I have a feeling that there was wood being used then or they would have advertised that fact. I have a 2001 brochure that lists all the same models they have now and it says no wood in the construction. I know that this is not answering your question since yours is a 1998 but I suspect that 1998 may be the year they changed to no wood construction since they started production of other models other than the 23 and 25. As far as the weight of a 4 stroke on the 21, I think it would work fine most of the time at least on my model. I don't have any scupper issues with the baitwell full and 2 people on board. Now if all of us are on the same side water will come in. If I had to make a decision today to re-power I would probably choose one of the new Direct injected 2 strokes.

I have drilled the transom on my 1998 21' (to install the Armstrong ladder bracket) and there is NO WOOD there, only the "green stuff" which is the composite material. Will let you all know my inpression of the e-tec after this weekend.

I highly suggest that you follow these instruction's for a composite core install. The Green stuff is Divenacell.

Thanks, very informative and will use it if I ever drill into the transom again, did not use the pvc but enough 5200 to seal the Divinacell
