I have my stern cleats mounted as shown in the picture below. They seem to work well and there is very little rubbing at all. These are pop-up cleats that I purchased off of e-bay for a steal. They are an older style that Accon discontinued. I do like the hawse (sp?) pipes but I had no real room on my boat after the transom livewell was added.

i think mr chuck lief vest is good idea,my peepaw used his toes. he had bad day in his jammies after.
