I have a '78 SF18 and it's got a '98 Ocean Pro (evinrude) 150 on it. It's a very sweet combination. The great aspect of the 150 and 175 V6's were that they were the Eagle Series motors. They were 60* V instead of 90*, and were listed at about 360# dry weight, some 75# less than the 90* V, 200 and 225 HP motors. They were designed to be considerably lighter than the regular V6's. The 60 degree block is smaller and more compact which yields the bulk of the weight savings, but even the bottom pan of the cover is composite as opposed to cast aluminum. If you can find one at a good price, it'd be a great way to go. Darlene |

Re: 18 SF Repower
bigshrimpin-Used the 1991 130 Yamaha today on the 18SF. It will not die. The 1996 motor you found has the stainless parts that mine does not have (shifter shaft is the big one). Electronics and compression are flawless after 15 years. That 1996 motor is a very good deal.

It's very tempting, but I just bought 2.5 more Merc outboards this week.

Mike,
My office is on St. Armand's circle. Look me up and we can grab lunch or a beer after work. 388-1009w or cell 544-7400. I'll tell Nick you said hi. Also he has a Pontiac GTO not a Grand AM.

Re: 18 SF Repower
I bit the bullet and put a 115 etec on my 18 and its just the ticket. I don't run folks off the river, but its great on fuel and low noise. Weight issue not a problem. Trolls well. So far so good. Now lets wait a few years......

Re: 18 SF Repower
I am helping my Dad put another motor on his 18SF. We have found twin 03 135 Ficht's (same as Generaider's) that may be sold, but the owner is willing to split up motors if not sold by Friday. They offer a great option for price, BRP quality, fuel burn, ect. Weight is the 427 V6 block - a little high, but great power. There has been lots of speculation that the ETEC 135 will be out, but when????
