I'm on my 2nd 130 Yamaha. We (Young Boats) and myself are redoing one now and hanging a 115 2 stroke Yamaha on it. Rob at Young Boats in Inglis has done several for us and they look new boats when he's done for less than 5K.

My boat is really in pretty good shape.I do need to replace the fuel tank,so I am going to shoot it with AwlGrip while I have it apart and hang new power on her.I could never pass a fuel pump with the old 130 on her,it liked the gas

I get 3.8 miles per gallon, my 1995 did better than the 2002 I'm running now.

My engine must of had some issues as it was no where near that. I have a question that you may be able to answer for me.Do you know if the fuel tank that is in the boat can come out of the forward bow hatch? My boat is an 84' and I think 28 or 30 gals, but I am not familure with it's shape. It is sandwiched between two bulkheads.I am thinking of cutting out the froward bulkhead and bringing the tank out through the hatch. If it doesn't fit through the hatch, then I would have to cut out the bulkhead on the cockpit side and bring it out that way.The only other alternative is to take off the cap which I really don't want to do.I thought if your friend has done a few Shipokes,he has surely come across this problem in the past.
Thanks, Joey |

Why do you want to pull the tank? Fred built them out of fiberglass and I've not heard of one failing. The only issues I have is with the fill. The fuel tank requires an 1 7/8's fill hose and the standard is 1 1/2 or 2in. I used a two inch and threaded a brass barb that is 1 7/8's OD.
Back to the tank... you have to pull the cap or cut the bulkhead in front of the cockpit, the one you can see while underway. Then pull it out into the cockpit, not fun.

There is so much junk comming through the line that the racor is clogging almost imediately.Tried to have it cleaned, but it didn't work.
My boat was owned by Cecil Keith, one of the pioneers of Islamorada flats fishing and later in his life he had a cockpit sole put in(much easier to walk on)so it really makes comming through the aft bulkhead even more of a pain. That's why I was looking for the size of the tank to determine if it would fit through the hatch.I recon I'll just cut it up and take out in peices. |
