Maybe Carla can help us out.
However I think they gave out numbers for each hull length, and did not run them across the different lengths.

My boat is registered as a 1970. However we believe it was built in 1966 or so.

The explanation for this, is in the old days the boat was assigned a year when it was registered and not when built. The boat could of been sold used for a few years and then got registered. Back in the 60's a lot of states did not have mandatory registration.

Your tug is quite the machine. Nice work.

Alot of the older Seacrafts here in Florida have Title issues. The State has incorrectly assigned Alot of the Seacrafts with the first 3 Characters of the HIN (known as an MIC) as FLZ, indicating a homebuilt in the records, but on the title it clearly says Seacraft. The NEW Seacraft MIC is SIC, it changes as ownership of the company changed. I beleive that when Florida consolidated/ merged/ updated/ entered the old seacrafts into the databases, there were issues. I see this same problem frequently. the First 3 letters of the HIN- Hull ID Number were mandatory for coastguard purposes- so they could ID a certain manufacturer. Also if a new owner didnt have or find the HIN they would just say it was Homemade when registering. It is very clear somethin is very wrong, how can the HIN state homebuilt while the title states Seacraft????? There are also dicrepancies with the years not "jiving" on title and what the state has in the database. From 1976 to 2002 it was SXC. Don't know what all of the ORIGINAL Moesly Potter MICs were. here is a link that will better explain.

I don't know all the rules on registering a boat, but the info that I have is:
Our 21' is a 1962, hull Id #71 ... Manuf name is spelled out "Sea Craft" with Florida registration # FL 7162F. It has remained in Florida since 'birth'.

The UNOHU, a 21' is a 1965, hull #167. My guess then is IslandTrader's 21, #136 was built between a 63 and 65.

Our Bowriders are 1965 & 1966, hull #336 & 319 respectively, supporting registration is the year, not built. Also indicating numbers were assigned by length since kerneltugboat is a 1969, #221.

Hope this helps.
Cheers.

First question how and where.

When ever I go up north to visit my daughter I do a Craigs list search of the Great Lakes area. A lot of old neat boats can be found up there, most which are wood, and a no no for Florida. This time a 21 Seacraft showed up in Wisconsin. I saw, I called, I bought.

I do not want to bracket the boat. I would like to keep the original "look" to her. However I was thinking of a Jack Plate that goes up and back. If that would work then I could keep the big transom and have the look and Outboard. If not then notch the transom and hang a motor. Thats a way off. I just need to get the I/O off and put it on ebay.

Now that has to be the record for a search & seizure

I thought going from Daytona Beach, FL. to Deville, LA. at 1668 miles round trip was a hike towing back my Sceptre.

Terry did you bring her home on that trailer? If so
you must have had to be watching your rear view mirrors
for say, the first 800 miles.

Congrats on a real nice find...

BTW: You did not by chance see any 15ft Scampi's on Craig's
up there did you???

See ya, Ken

Hi Carla,

Do you think it is possible my Hull 221 could have been made in the middle sixties and just registered in 1969? Just curious if they started with number 1 or 100? I have no idea how many hulls were built in that time frame, but I find it hard to believe there were at least 221 Model 27's built in 1969. I guess I am wondering if my boat is a Potter built or Moesly built? Either way I can't go wrong !!!!

Thanks,

Dan
