Go with a very good 8' antenna. You need to have one with a brass ferrule, mated to a brass or stainless mount. DOn't worry about having it lay out horizontal, it will be fine. Jus attach a bungie or tie-down from the cleat to the upper 1/3 of the antenna to keep it from oscillating through a big arc while trailering.

Hey John,

You might want to check out an 8' Digital.

A couple pro's with them is;

- Order the antenna cable in custom length(but believe no shorter than 4') for neater install as i recall potential issues based upon how you wind up the excess cable. Others may recall, use figure "8" versus circle?

- The soldered end(factory installed and tested, nice ) of antenna cable is the approx same size of the cable(the larger radio connections screw on after routing), so easier to fit thru tight chases and simple mechanical conection to radio.

Cons were don't wait for the spring to custom order, you may not see it for a few weeks ...

- Nick

There was no doubt in my mind at least one of the CSC.com readers would not let this suggestive opportunity go by. Not the first time the vertical position has got me in trouble. However the not so wonderful sound of the antenna slapping on the concrete bridge brought be back to earth....rather quickly as the broken antenna fell across the gunnel. Good bye $125.
