Re: Coast Guard boarding & hull number question?
Quote:
I got pulled over last Monday by a training crew. He asked for things one by one as I showed them. He didn`t ask for flares. I said nothing. No whistle either , but it was on my key chain. I said nothing. He asked if I had been fishing. He asked to see my venting tool and de-hooker. I showed him my pliers and told them I use a riggin` needle to vent fish. I told him I`d been using it for 10 years or so, and that I was a member of the WPB fishing club and CCA. He asked a trainee to write me for no venting tool. I told him a tool is a tool half tongue in cheek. He said it was not an approved tool. That was it. He seemed to have an ego , so I decided to try to use that in my favor. I bet him my ticket that I could properly vent a fish with my needle and that he couldn`t vent one with his "approved" tool. The trainees all looked at him. He said he could vent a fish the right way and that it was easy with the proper tool. I grabbed a Mutton and passed it over. He pulled out his very small tool and laid down the pec fin. I shook my head side to side as the trainees looked at me. I asked if anyone had heard a whoosh. Nothing. I asked for the fish. I pushed my long tool in just behind the trailing edge of the gill plate at a very acute angle and whoosh as I held it up for all to hear. I was very tempted to say that`s how it`s done son , but I didn`t see any bread sticks. I was free to leave. I thanked them and thought what a tool. Cheers, GFS |

Re: Coast Guard boarding & hull number question?
I am glad they do that kind of stuff down there, up here in the San Juan Islands they very seldom come aboard, most ask for life vest and ask if we have and fish, why fish I don't know because they could care less unless the ones I talk to like to fish. You are more likely to get stopped here by Customs Patrol, home land security or Border Patrol as we have a lot of drug activity from British Columbia bring down their bud. They grow tons of it there.

Re: Coast Guard boarding & hull number question?
Don for some reason, maybe just to piss us off, they all wear those black boots on boarding parties. They have never stopped me but I hear the same complaint from everybody.

Re: Coast Guard boarding & hull number question?
Yes Sir I think you're right, however as luck would have it my next door neighbor is friends with the CG Commamnder in St. Pete., I won't let it happen again to me. Two things, 1. that is not the proper footwear for the CG to use on the water, they are issued non-marking boots and 2. for a simple boat inspection you don't have to let them on board with those black boots on. Was not a real big deal, a little comet and a scrub brush and it was gone. It could be worse....These CG guys are probably involved with the oil spill mess in the Gulf. Yuck.

Re: Coast Guard boarding & hull number question?
My hull # is SECF3226 according to the paper work that came with the boat; does that number look correct?
The boat does appears to have had the transom replaced at some point and time in it's life.

Re: Coast Guard boarding & hull number question?
I would question the numbers on the title and compare them to the hull.

Re: Coast Guard boarding & hull number question?
To all interested parties. The USCG since 911 no longer wears differt shoes based on mission. They are required to wear those boots for all missions. If you were to ask them about them, they probably respond " They mark up our Boats as well, and we have to keep them clean. George.

Re: Coast Guard boarding & hull number question?
About the flares, my local uscg inspector (I have an inspected passenger launch at work) informed me that we are no longer required to carry them on the launch, as all our trips are under 30 minutes. Strange huh?
