Mine is a 1988 Yamaha Excel V6 (225hp). It has a newer powerhead (1997) and a new lower unit (2009). I have approx 500 hours on the powerhead and it runs strong. This motor is a good match for the 23' Sceptre. My motor is a light 2 stroke weighing in at only 408 lbs. WOT is 39 mph at 5100 rpms. I cruise at 30 mph @ 4200 rpms burning 11 gallon per hour neting out a very respectable 2.72mpg. For the above reasons and $$ that is why I still have this engine. Also, I run 15x17p Alum 3 bladed propeller. 1988-2001 was ALL salt water use, although I flushed it out after each trip. VERY happy with my old Yami!!!

Well I looked at it on Saturday, not going to happen. Boat was pretty beat, keel was all scraped up, engine had trouble starting, crack in the lower unit, etc. They had four guys working on it when I got there and it eventually fired up. Owner still had a bunch of his own personal things all over the boat. Required way more work than I wanted to do - Id rather spend more on something in better shape. So, with that said - back to Craigslist - the search continues. Thanks again for the help.

If its the one in Acuchnet it looked pretty beat up in the pictures and the engine was definetely an 88 or an 89 as they are the only years that Yamaha made the exel model would have been great at around 2500$
