I am the new owner of this 20ft Sceptre. I am very excited about this looking forward to converting this into a Center Console. Looking for advise from anyone who has converted there 20 Sceptre into a Center Console also. I wanted to find a CC to fix up but could never come across one in my price range in N.Carolina. Guess the first thing i need to start shopping for is a new gas tank any suggestions on new fuel tank?

I'd suggest you get it running and try using it in it's current configuration before converting to a CC! It's utility might surprise you! It currently has a lot more useable cockpit space than it'll have if you put a center console in it, and front deck access isn't much better in a CC. Also doesn't seem right to destroy a relatively rare model (only 263 built, by Potter in the 70's) when they built thousands of CC models, right up through the 1990's.

If you are going to convert it, the gas tank is the least of your worries right now.

Welcome to ClassicSeacraft, Back Sound.

If you are experienced in fiberglass fabrication, go ahead and convert it to a CC if that's what you want to do.

On the other hand, if you've never made a fiberglass part as large and complicated as the cap for a 20' boat, I agree with Bushwacker that you should run it as a Sceptre first.

If you can tell us a little about yourself and your experience level with boat restoration in general and fiberglass work in particular, we'll be better able to give appropriate advise. If you've already got one or two restorations under your belt, we can give advise on configuration. If you are a newbie to boat restoration, we can tell you which jobs to tackle first so you can learn as you go.

I am a newbie for sure but have been reading a lot about sea crafts over the past few years. I could do the restore myself but this is a boat that I want to enjoy for next 10 years or so I will have friend who has done at least three sea crafts that I know of. I just got her in the yard today and I wish I was fan of the Sceptre but I am a Center Console guy. This is my second boat my first was a 1972 mako 22ft that was great inshore but offshore did not do to well. I still have not made up mind for closed transom or regular. So input on ride with bracket would help.

Congrads on your new purchase!!!
Don't convert it though...seems that you will still have access to fish in the bow etc..
Keep staring at it .....Sceptre might grow on you!!!!
Welcome to CSC!!!

I've converted two boats into CC's from their original configuration back when I was young and dumb One was a 23 ArenaCraft and the other was an Alaskan skiff used for Salmon fishing. It was fun but I would never do that again these days. Very expensive and takes twice as long to complete as I expected. The 20fs rides great with a flotation bracket and a nice light motor on the back. Like Denny said their are tons of 20sf's out there ready for some love.
