The 22 foot mako I rode in last year would pound badly in a buzzards bay chop that wouldn't bother a 20 foot Seacraft much. I had a very slow ride - maybe 8 knots- in a head sea on that mako that I believe I could have run at 17-18 knots in my 20 foot Seacraft. But the mako rolls less at rest.

If you really want to apply the "Scientific Method" in you quest, get down to the Long Point Gathering the beginning of May - the whole band-width of Seacrafts will be available to try, including that old one they found in the basement in Langley Va. with Bahia de Puerco stenciled on the side of it....! It might be worth the trip.

Now that be some SERIOUS "truth speak!"

I will make it one of these years, sans the "better half!"

No, All Dick Bertram could see in his rear view mirror of his 31 Moppie with twin 427's were SeaCraft 21's. Some with "Tower of Power" Mark 78 Merc's, some with twin 120 Mercruisers and one with a pair of 55 HP Crosley/Homelite four strokes - Carl Moesly's "Mosquito Fleet" was coming to get him. Dick Bertram had 50% more hull length and he still couldn't loose 'em. I think he's still afraid follow look in his rear view mirror.

Since Terry has chimed in(the guy who introduced me to Seacraft Seafaris), I can't resist.

Don't know the Makos personally, but let me tell a story.

A lot of years ago, I was in between boats, looking, wanted to go as small as possible and was a member of the St Pete Underwater Club(SPUC). Those guys were extemely hard core, go for broke divers and spearos. Bad weather, whats that? Winter, who cares? Lots and lots of deep experience with a huge variety of hulls in all kinds of weather. I asked around and found a consensus that the Seacraft 20 was the only boat in its size class that could stand up to SPUC punishment. Some other boats were considered good, but Makos did not even make the discussion. I bought a 20, dove it year round, usually 20-30 miles offshore, for years. Even if a diver is young and stupid(like I was), there is no way he can do that kind of thing in any boat that does not ride extremely well. The 20 is an incredible sea boat. Of course, the 23 is even better. If you really get lucky, you might luck into one of the old 25s.

Makos seem to be fine boats, but the ride of even their best hulls is very unlikely to compare favorably to a Seacraft.

Further thoughts:

Blue Heron is right. I'll readily admit to be somewhat biased, as are the rest of us. But there is a good reason for that bias. Nearly all of us have owned and/or ridden extensively in many other brands of boat, mostly good ones. From hard experience, we have decided on Seacraft. The ride is the most important factor. The fact that they look so good and are constructed so well are very nice extras.

That is great feedback and I appreciate it, I will be on the lookout for either an 18 or 20 Potter Hull. Thanks to all, Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all.
