Default Re: Transom Bracket - twin outboards

had my motors in every hole now - got em where they run "best". measuring straight forward of them is the step change in the hull - I get 3 1/2" or 5" depending on which part of the hull you measure to....it is right at the step....regardless it is the best spot I have found and I only slip in the rougher water.
Will start to mess with props now. I think (from what you all have told me) that a couple 4 blades will get me dialed in.

will post what I find out

Those motors set back 30" should run in alot cleaner water than off the transom, and should get a good bite.
What was your WOT rpm/speed?
Did trimming them up change how the boat came off from waves?

The last two days I had the motors in the top holes - which measure 2-1/2" or 4" depending which spot you measure to.......max speed in 1.5 foot chop was 13 mph b4 blowout. I ran every possible configuration - full tanks, empty ranks, trim - no trim, people in the bow, in the stern, fish n the box - no fish in the box (yes my 33 yr old boat caught it's first salmon!).
Motors will be back in the hole they ran best in (tomorrow). When they were there I could go wide open throttle on flat water - I can get the numbers the prop people want and maybe come up with a better prop situation.

I appreciate all the help you guys have been giving me.

Someone told me that Powertech props will work on exchanging their props for a fee until you get what you want.....
Will look into this tomorrow. They ask for a ton of specs - so I am guessing I can get pretty close right off the bat.

I tried to avoid buying the new props but just got off the phone with the people at Powertech and have a new set of 4 blade props coming to try out this weekend. Cha-Ching $$

will advise.

thanks to all

Lobo,
SeaCrafts always run best with fish in the box

What were your performance numbers like?

Glad you you got a handsome salmon for your efforts. Did you try to run without the foils?

PowerTech has a ton of props and the guys know the intent of their products. They have a 3 blade MQS series which is designed for heavy lifting and also available in a 4 blade. They also have an old school Yamaha semi-cleaver style that also comes in a 4-blade. That one is the SCE4.

Those are 14-14.5" easy-to-turn wheels. The hole shots from those will likely be outstanding.

You might get better bite and overall efficiency from the bigger 15.25" wheels like the OFS and OFX models. Good luck!

PS I got the decals, they look nice. Thanks.

bit the bullet for the OFS props - if the wife ever finds out how much they cost - there will be a 23 CC for sale! LOL

ended up w/ 4 chinook, 1 steelhead and one lake trout - so it was a decent box for the shakedown fishing trip.\

numbers....... in the very top hole I could not exceed 13 MPH - then blowout - so I got no numbers. Will have these 4 bladeOFS props on by Saturday and then get some real numbers. The Powertech guy seeemed very knowledgeable - will be able to tweak the numbers maybe with an additional prop/swap

I went with Powertech back in '01 when I first put a Merc XR4 on my Seafari. I wasn't happy with anything I tried, and I used to prop boats for a living, so I knew I could do better,

I ended up getting a custom-made PowerTech prop based upon what they then called the Offshore series, 15.25" diameter with 16.5" pitch, with very aggressive rake progression. (blade pitch 1.5" from the hub was only 12") It cost me over $700 at the time. I ended up with greatly improved top-end AND hole shot. I REALLY like PowerTech.

I am again less than thrilled with my overall performance, this time I have a Trophy Plus on my Optimax, and have my eye on a used Powertech SCD4 19", but have not convinced the repair shop to swap for my Trophy Plus 21"P
