Bill, glad to see she's gone to a good home and has gotten a fresh water rinse! Hope you and your kids enjoy her as much as we did! These boats were built to be used and enjoyed, not trailer queens!

Although the 37' trawler I made a deposit on flunked it's sea trial due to engine problems, the owner requested I give them a conditional acceptance before they spend $4K+ to replace the HP injection pump! Since the boat otherwise passed survey, I've accepted it providing they fix the problem and successfully finish the sea trial to prove that it's fixed! The delay is actually working in my favor because I hadn't planned to bring it home from New Bern until Nov. 1 anyway, so this will save me from paying slip fees! Will update my avatar and post some new pics once we close the deal on it! Arden and I are now headed to the Great Loop Cruising Association's annual Roundezvous at Joe Wheeler State Park on the Tennessee River near Huntsville, Al. to learn more about doing the Loop!

Which trawler boat? I'm very interested in doing this in 4-5 years.

I promise we will. It looks like we have another decent weekend coming up too. After reading so many of your threads and seeing so many of your photo’s it has shocked me every morning walking out the door and seeing her in the driveway.

If Arden and you get that trawler on Erie or Ontario next year we will have to make a plan to get you back at the helm. I’m sure by then you’ll be dying to get back up on plane!

Thanks John. I wish I could have saved one like you and Dogbomb did but that just wasn’t in the cards for me. It’s a nice consolation prize though.

I wanted to do some distance and build confidence in the Lady before I put her away. The kids and I headed out about 20 miles west, ate lunch, turned north to Port Colborne, Ontario and back in to Buffalo. Unlike the yellow Safari with the 38 year old Merc which proved to be reliable but made you hold your breath, it’s clear the Restless Lady is waiting for my skills to catch up. Running back in with the wind I kept finding myself at max rpm so I stopped fighting it and keep it there to play with trim. I never had trim tabs before. It felt like I found a sweet spot first picking up the bow with engine trim then lifting the e-tec and bracket with the tabs. I’m guessing that got her up on the center panel because we flattened out just a little and just took off. I have had the pleasure of powder skiing a few times and both had the same sensation of floating. I easily walked by an aluminum walleye boat with its nose up and pounding away. All I can say is I can’t wait for the spring.


We’re down to 50 today so the fun’s over and this weekend she’s going into hibernation. But this time within eye shot next to the house. I tell my guys at work all the time, control what we can control, mitigate the risks around the things we can’t.
