FellowShip
I just found a number of the fittings that you will need if you change the grab rail, as you are suggesting. Send me a PM if you are interested. Dink

HerPaycheck,

I'm trying to figure a way to get a "chip" off the hull this spring, or to find a spot that won't matter, and send it off to get color matched (gel coat) .... Maybe off the transom ...I just want to minimize the damage and subsequent repair to the hull (not to mention the cosmetic repair ...Now that I think about it...it might be easiest to take a "chip" from below the water line and behind bottom paint. That would be easy to patch and no cosmetic issues ...

Wonder if I can shave off just the gelcoat sample and not disturb the structural glass below ??

Bring a sample down in April. (snatch a piece from under the rub rail) Tom at Signature Finish can copy it for you

Scott,
Does the boat above look close? The transom
in the first pic looks dead on?

You can probably take a sample in the middle
of your transom above the waterline where the
motor covers it anyway.

Chuck, Great idea!

Rod ...
It looks really close ... All I know is this is the original gelcoat ...no paint That’s why I'm looking to do a gelcoat match ...those old transducer wire holes and an scratch and nick here and there around the hull (and a pair of thru hulls that are being repaired) There is an excellent fiberglass repair/gelcoat matcher in the area but with what he charges I could get the hull painted in Alwgrip !!! his repairs blend flawlessly

With some sanding (wet ) , compounding and waxing I would think we would get real real close

I will try and find the color in my records. I do know that some research was applied to find an original color offerd in Awl grip.

You know it is funny you mention it. The boat is not for sale but the idea has crossed my mind lately. I find it harder and harder to find time to get on the water. She always looks better in the water than in the driveway. I have so much invested and really do appreciate being the owner of such a nice 1973. It would be a rough decision, but if I decide to go that way, I will let you know.

Bobby ...THANKS !!! I didnt even realize they had color charts on the site... I should see if they can send me chips to compare in real light

Its 411-412 ...I know when I talked with minicraft and sent them pictures I was told it was a tough color to match ...but they said they could get 99.9% there ...how much more do I need ??

Thanks again !!
