It will!! You defintely have mis-matched plates on there now . . . It's gonna be a smokin fast lil' boat with that motor ... good on fuel too. Which carbs are you running? Also make sure you yank the spark advance/idle stabilizer module and oil injection if they're still on.

Re: mercury poppet

so i get the gaskets and get to the shop and the guy says he will pull the power head but thats it because that exhaust plate off the 2.4 wont fit in that 2.5 leg. if i want to change that exhaust plate i need to pull the whole engine off the boat next week and wait for him to have some free time to do it!? what the hell is this!? so i might be gettin an engine lift tomorrow and tryin to do the whole thing on saturday. can this be done in 1 day??

If there are no stuck nuts on the power head, yes it can be done in a day. If when the last time the power head was off and every bolt was greased, it should be a cake walk.
Just make sure you have the Merc fly wheel lifting ring handy.

I just took my 2.4L plate over to my merc graveyard where the 2.5L leg lives to be 100% sure that my memory was correct.

Looks like there's one more step if you want to use the 2.4L plates.

Or you could stay just use the top 2.5L plate which would be a lot less work . . . but you have to go back to the store to get right gasket.
