Hey, MBO,

Thanks for the heads up. They are different than "spray rails!" Built with that downward deflection, I can definitely see how they can really do the job; actually deflecting the rising spray water back down to the water surface.

My dad owned a Thunderbird tri-hull by Formula. They used one on the old show "Flipper" that we watched back when we were kids. With basically a pretty deep V hull with smaller/shallower returns directing water coming up the hull back down, the boat was a very dry ride. The down side was that it would slap like crazy in a chop of any significant size.

I learned something new again today; a GOOD day! Just like so many past and so many more yet to come. - Thanks!

Just a note of caution: This is why you won't find any "rails" on any Moesly design (The 19, 20, 21, 25 Seafari, or 27' hulls)! Every hull design is a compromise and his priority was the softest ride, not the driest. Potter added a spray rail when he stretched the 21 to make the 23. A friend who owned a 21 for over 25 years said the 23's had trouble staying up with him in rough seas, and he didn't cruise all that fast (~20 kts). He felt that the spray rail, which was the only major difference in the hulls, was the reason! One would expect the longer heavier 23 to ride better, not worse! I don't mind a little spray on the windshield, but I DO mind a hard ride!
