Default Console Reconditioning and new T-Top on a 84 20'SF

Been hacking away at the house with not much time for working on the boat lately. I have been wanting to recondition the console for a while, and the honey-do's were short this weekend, so I had my project.

This is what the console looked like when I got her:

Quite a mess. Needed a blank slate to work from, and wanted a new t-top to replace the make-shift one that she came with. I am going to apologize in advance - I should have had the camera to show progress - next project.

Step one - off with what was there and on with the new top:

Then the blank slate was crafted. Here is how she looks now.

Last item on the agenda was to fabricate some new hatches for the rear access areas. The original teak versions were splitting and pretty beat up. Also didn’t want the maintenance (I know - I will probably regret it later).

If I had to do it over again, I would have gone slightly lighter on the hardware, but at least I don’t think its going anywhere. Also debating on adding some fold down lexan/clear doors to the electronics area. Also need to add stops and latches to the doors new doors.

I don’t like the leaning post - way too big. It was cheap, and the old unit I had was falling apart. I am going to put something in, but not sure on what yet.

So its off to have wiring, engine and controls finally mounted next week after vacation. Very excited! Comments on the above are welcome. What you might have done differently....

Looks good MBO. Did you have the t-top custom made or pull it off another boat? It's too bad they dont make a smaller version of that leaning post. I looked at them myself but figured that it would be too big for my 20. I think you can find screws that are painted white if you are not happy with all those screws showing. I like that lip you made on top of the cc in the 5th picture. Whats next on the list?

I bought a leaning post from a guy in the industrial area off yamato. I believe it was around $275 and fit perfectly on my 20'.
I don't have pictures or his number right now, but buy a boat trader and you will find him in the misc section. He has a small ad with a broward and palm beach number that offers to deliver. He does all the welding in-house and his wife makes the seats on a big sewing machine. It is good quality and will look great whenever I finish my boat

Sandy - will measure up when i get back to baltimore - on vacation this week, so it will be a few days.

Srick - thanks. T-Top was custom for another '84 20SF - found it here on SCS.com last year. Was stoopid cheap after I sold the top the boat came with (Net something like $400 - no brainer!). Next is dragging her to the rigger wiring redone and getting the 200 HPDI I bought for her hung. Over the winter i am going to have the cockpit and console painted (maybe the hullsides, but they are in pretty good shape). If you look closely at the pics, you can see the paint that someone did an awful job of putting on peeling. Needs to get soda blasted, re primed then painted. Will also have a new rubrail and smart rails put on at that time. That should be it - for now. Im not getting into too muc structural work as the boat seems solid.

Phan - thanks - ill look around. I think you are saying boattraderonline is where you found the guy?

for controlling spray and keeping the boat a bit less tender on a drift.

this is SCS.com member RiffRaff's 20SF with smart rails (at transition of bottom to gunwale):

That's what I thought they probably were. I know them as spray rails. Unless I'm missing something, its the same thing/different name.

The picture suggests that they may actually be curved down, pushing the spray back into the water rather than simply deflecting it out to the sides. Is that right? If so they may be a bit different than "spray" rails.
