Do you guys ever go out LWI and back in Jupiter and run back inside, seems logical to me since I used to slog back outside all the time.

egg - you got it, thats exactly what well do if its nasty out and we want to stay dry. when conditions permit we just run up the beach, just remember that the intracostal is very narrow on that stretch and on the weekends the inside can be as bad as the outside with all the damn searay wakes bouncing off the seawalls in every dirrection.

Dixon, I often do that, as I normally launch at the NPB village ramp since it's close and usually not crowded. It's about 5 mi. north of LW inlet however, so a run back to LWI is about 10 miles further for me. That's a good option if it's really rough, but there are a couple of long manatee/slow speed zones, one from just inside Jupiter inlet all the way to the Indiantown road bridge, and another one about a mile or so, both sides of PGA bridge. There's also a short one near a boat ramp just south of Donald Ross bridge. The signs for it are hard to spot among all the docks so be careful there, as it's heavily patrolled, esp on weekends.

If it's only 2-3' outside, it's probably faster to run back outside, esp. if you launch at Phil Foster park or points south. Denny

Dixon, I used to do just that when I managed Waterway marina (now called Soverel) in PBG, right at PGA and the intracoastal. Head 15 minutes south to LWI, troll/drift offshore, then run in Jupiter and run 30 minutes south in the ICW to the Marina.

But if it kicks up really bad, and seas build to over 5-7', you may need to run back to Lake Worth offshore.

I strongly advise against running Jupiter Inlet when it's breaking large unless you can honestly call yourself an expert boat handler in rough conditions AND you are familiar with how the sandbars at the mouth of Jupiter inlet can shift in only a few hours. Lots of people try to shoot Jupiter in bad conditions and end up having to be rescued, or even die. (Don't head for St. Lucie Inlet, it can be worse)

In 1986, the USCG named Jupiter Inlet one of the 10 most dangerous inlets in the USA. (Palm Beach County had 3 of the 10 most dangerous inlets in the country, and Florida fully half of the 10: Boynton Inlet was #4, Jupiter was #9, and Boca Raton was #10. St. Lucie was #8)

If its going to be 5 to 7 I won't need to come in any inlet :D I am familar with Jupiter and I am experienced at running the inlets over there, mostly LW but Boyton too. First time in Jupiter I came in at night - had to make a quick jog to the south but pretty good.

I never have. Too many slow/ no wake zones and a long way to Phil Foster. I do duck in to avoid lightning. You have to stop and count the sets in Jupiter. Usually 3 of 3. Barney surfing skills help somewhat. Or you can follow a wagon in.
Scotty Brown surfed his diesel Sea Vee 29 in once with me and his wife gave me one of those what do you want me to do looks. Glad we didn`t lose power or steering.
A 42 ft dive boat hit the bar in Boynton and rolled last Dec.. They really need to dredge it before someone gets killed. Mind the throttle in either inlet.
