Full tool kit, spare parts, MANUAL back-up bilge bilge pump in addition to at least two electrics, ditch bag with epirb and handheld VHF in addition to above. The list could go on and on depending what else you may or may not have. Most important thing is experience and knowledge, both for yourself and knowing your boat. Take your time and get very good with both but never complacent. Last, plenty of coolers/bags for the fillets you are sure to bring home ;-)

Damn Fella's! With all that stuff I'd be afraid to leave the dock. Jeff just call one of your pal's and run two boats. We ran the 50 miles to the Bahamas Bank most weekends in my old sceptre/200 merc, she had a 110 gallon tank which was good for the day. I did get caught in a bad squall once, it blew us 20 miles north or so and had to use the bladder to get home.

I will say it ain't my first time. But the omc's is my worry at the most. I could work on them in the dark if I needed to. I love them for their simplicity. Olds cool , dolphin show up in May. Gradually move closer as the water gets warmer. I will say that I have been and made it back on a 19' sea pro bay boat with a single 100 hp. Handheld gps at that. Of course I was younger. Won't do it again either. That day was my honeymoon. 53nm out of fripp island. Yes, I caught fish. Wife reminds everyday frequently about it. 10 years coming up and I said "hey let's do it again" I just got a look.....

I have a manual pump I keep in my boat. It is about 30" long and weighs next to nothing. I have never had to use it, but I do know that in a situation where there is an electrical short on a boat, it is very possible that all electronics will be useless. Even if a boat has 2 motors and there is no common wiring, I have seen it several times where there is one wire that the owner is unaware of that causes both sides to be rendered useless.

How many hours have you put on the boat since all the work was complete? I wouldn't consider it unless you have had 20+ hours on the new set up to chase out the demons.

x2. ANYTIME I do any work to mine, I run it as much as possible before heading offshore.

I took it out quite a bit last year after all the work. Only problem I had was 1 optic eye and fuel alarms going off. I rebuilt both pumps and the alarms went away. I am going to change the other optic eye so I have one for backup. Other than that I should be cool.
