He has speed and wisdom. I think his pop spiked his formula with epoxy.

No doubt!! A really nice cross of a skiff and bay boat. The side console is perfect, I moved mine on my Bonefisher to the side and it was perfect!! With two in the boat it just worked better with the extra room, balance, etc.

Keep the pics coming!!

flyingfrizzle 03-02-2020 08:00 AM

I like the layout as well.

I have a 22' flats boat with the side console and large casting platforms. It works well for fishing and the side console seems to give you a lot more open room. She is turning out nice so far. Cant wait to see it finished...

Yep much more space than the Lips. My new little one needs room to roam! That boat was too pretty for me anyway...

July 4th deadline!

Got a buncha glassing done... Splashwell all tied in, top of decks done, still need tabbed underneath and the foredeck will get its 2nd layer after i glass the toerails. Put some carbon on the foredeck just to make it not so trampoline-y, thats a big area and i dont want to put beams underneath... For the record and anyone watching, it would be much more effective on the bottom side, and i could get away with alot less but i wasnt given some carbon before i layed up the bottom hehe. There is some uni glass on the bottom though...

Cut some access too. Went back and forth on a top hatch or rear opening on the forward bulkhead. Bulkhead is tall enough to get in there real easily and saved alotta wprk doing it that way so... Need to make some gutters/flanges for the rear hatch now.

The bottom of the combing gets foam taken out and epoxy filled. The backside of it was rounded over and glassed when the bottom side was done. Really ties the skins together and that spot is always getting beat up.

I can't take credit for that name...

I was at Tribute the other day. On the way out, I asked in the voice of Borat,
This boat come with labia magnet?

They know me there...

Welp, the PB boat show has been postponed. My favorite day of the year.

LOL you guys are having way too much fun over there...never seen Cap Chuck ready to give out preliminary Gucci stamps either but this unique build is certainly heading that way...on those under gunnel supports/rod racks you put a pvc sleeve is there... any issue painting over the pvc? Great work as usual Dirt

I just take a lil drum sander with 150 grit and hit it, prime n paint like normal. Done a bunch with pvc, and with glass pipe. pvc holds paint just fine after an epoxy primer.

strick 03-14-2020 04:46 PM

Got it thank you sir...I forgot about the awlgrip primer..will stick to anything..

I have to strive to be, i do it for a living!

dirtwheelsfl 03-22-2020 08:18 PM

The devil is in the details! The little things always take the most time, well besides fairing...

Yes i was in a hurry and only measured once before cutting on these as u can see, DOH!

Quickie gutter material

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...b00760f5_c.jpgUntitled by dirtwheelsfl, on Flickr

Moved the miter saw outside for these cuts. The whole aft edge got core removed and solid glass put in for hinge hardware. The corners got filled with epoxy (red stuff) and rounded over before tabbing.

This is a piece of hollow-back rubrail with packing tape under it mushed in some epoxy to form a round profile. It will keep that edge from getting beat up. The rest of bulkhead gets core taken out of the edges, epoxy filled then glassed too... Fasteners got a full inch depth filled.

gofastsandman 03-22-2020 09:54 PM

Nice work.

Where are you finding gloves?

erebus 03-22-2020 10:14 PM

Question:
When you remove the core on the edges of things (bulkheads, gunwale etc.) what tool or process do you use to do that?

I've used a cut off stubby Allen wrench chucked into a drill to remove core in a cored hull for a thru-hull or transducer or whatever, but I cant imagine how you would do it for a whole gunwale or bulkhead.

lelandtampa 03-22-2020 10:41 PM

AutoZone had XL gloves today. Black, blue and orange ones.

A trim router with a straight paddle cutting bit and a steady hand mostly. If i cant fit the router ill use a die grinder with some kind of burr chucked in it. A sharp stubby 1/4” drill bit works well too. Im only going 3/8”ish deep in most cases, and in high impact areas.

Yea woulda been nice to have a cleaner hull, couldnt tell just how bad it was though. I think he said submerged piling? I forget... He owned it for 40yrs

dirtwheelsfl 04-25-2020 01:30 PM

Fixed the damaged areas first, starboard side ended up having to get about 6ft of the bottom step ground out and repaired too. Stem/keel got ground and glassed too. Faired al that and glassed the whole bottom with a 6 and 4 oz finish cloth for uniformity. Pretty much ready for highbuild after i sharpen the step corners back up...

Sprayrails got shaped and glassed too.
