Anyone know about a CT boat with Yanmar?
Hey gents-
A couple of years back I remember seeing for sale a sweet blue 20 Seacraft that was totally rebuilt and had a Yanmar diesel. I think the owner lived in Newtown, CT . The boat was totally set up for flyfishing The asking price was something very high....I think $39,000. Just wondering if anyone knows the whereabouts of this boat. Would like to see it posted on this site. |
Re: Anyone know about a CT boat with Yanmar?
I think Billybob purchased his unfinished 23 from the same guy, something about a gent in Newtown, CT who re-does SeaCrafts? Hopefully BillyBob can fill in here?

Re: Anyone know about a CT boat with Yanmar?
A gentleman by the name of Roger Sartini of Sartini Boat Works in Westport, MA just built a T-Top and did some glass work for the exact boat you mentioned. He just finished it about 2 weeks ago. Roger was telling me he saw the guy's boat was on the cover of "Saltwater Fishing" or some other big name fishing magazine.

A t-top? You're breaking my heart.
That boat looked beautiful without one....I couldn't imagine a better set-up for light tackle and flyfishing. |

I was under the impression that this was the CT boat that you are referring to:
http://thehulltruth.com/6/ubb.x?a=tp...31&m=716607131 In this thread the owner talks about how he bought it in CT.... http://thehulltruth.com/6/ubb.x?a=tp...561#1306044561 Everytime I look at that Seacraft I begin to drool uncontrollably.... When you figure that the Yanmar + tranny/trolling valve cost around 20K+ the asking price for that beautiful boat while high was not unreasonable... |
Re: Anyone know about a CT boat with Yanmar?
DS - that's a 23 on the Chesapeke - truly beautiful boat though. Maybe came for same original guy?

Deepsushi-
That's a very nice boat, but I'm not sure if that is the one I remember seeing for sale. I thought the one I remember seeing for sale was smaller, maybe a 20, and was Robin's Egg blue, not Seafoam Green. It had a Yanmar too, but for some reason I think it was also a straight inboard and not an i/o setup, like most 20's. Is that even possible for a 20 to be a straight inboard? Who knows, I could be totally off my rocker and that could be the boat. |
Re: Anyone know about a CT boat with Yanmar?
Matt-
The boat that I am thinking of was advertised for a long time in the Fisherman magazine/boattrader/& On the water magazines and it was a 23. I can remember the add which read: 23 seacraft inboard/yanmar...totally set up for offshore fly fishing/popup cleats/ 600+ mile range/ caravan 64 roller trailer/ quick change oil system/ trolling valve /cruise speed 28 knots burning 3.8 gph/ max speed 38 knots. At one point the price dropped to $36,900. It did not have a T-top when it was for sale... I spent many a day/night trying to figure out a way to come up with the $$$$ to buy this boat. To the best of my knowledge the only straight inboards were 23 foot "Potter" seacrafts and later there were a few 27 foot inboards made by CSY. Maybe John R. can search through his "archived seacraft ads tomb" on his 'puter and come up with a 20 foot diesel? |

Yeah, that sounds like the boat. I guess it was a 23. So is it the one that is now in Maryland?? -Ed- |

Re: Anyone know about a CT boat with Yanmar?
Yeah Matt - You are right except it was a 23.That's the guy I bought mine from, he had gutted mine then came across the inboard and flipped mine over and left it in the yard for a few years. That thing was schweeet.Brand new Yanmar in the console, straight inboard with the tunnel, he shot it with Dupont auto paint. He had it in this brand new HUGE garage he built. The guy's name was Glen, he did fly charters, dear eradication, was restoring a 57 T-Bird, even had some tuna fly patents. He wanted to get an even bigger boat to restore and had no time for mine.He had his diesal listed for the longest time in the boattrader and the bargain news, I think it was worth the $, but it was just out of my league. When he listed mine for $4000, I called got his machine, did the reverse lookup, got the adress and drove straight there.By that time he had already gotten a bunch of calls - so I bought it - he wouldn't take less though.Would have loved that diesal though.

Re: Anyone know about a CT boat with Yanmar?
Thanks, Billybob. So much for my memory of it being a 20.
I guess the 20' that SquidRig mentioned earlier is a different boat. -Ed- |

Oops - dear eradication sounds like some kind of hit man for spouses /lovers - must pay well.Glen did deer eradication, you know for those communities that have deer eating the shrubs problems.I gotta admit, I admire the guy for his vocation(s) - sure beats the 9 - 5.

Re: Anyone know about a CT boat with Yanmar?
I heard he ran over the deer with the old t-bird, and used the hair left over on the grill to make those patented tuna flies for his charter business.
Schweeeeet business plan...sounds like a future Harvard case study. |
Re: Anyone know about a CT boat with Yanmar?
Thanks for the compliments on the boat ... I bought it from Glen about 1.5 years ago. had it brought down to maryland and put it on a lift on Kent Island. The picture on thehulltruth is relatively current, I've added some electronics and radio. She runs like a dream and can take just about anything the Chesapeake can dish out!! I typically fish in the Kent Island area ... give me a shout if you want to join me for an outing

Re: Anyone know about a CT boat with Yanmar?
Matt,
I am just making an educated guess but I think that the boat in MD is the boat that we are discussing... Maybe billybob can confirm/unconfirm this for us as I think he has actually seen the boat in person? Or maybe we should email the guy in MD who owns it although, he may choose to ignore a message coming from a bunch of raving seacraft psycho maniacs... Deep Sushi-
It is either the boat in MD or maybe it is that boat in MA that Squir Dog wrote about earlier. I'd like to see a picture of that one too. -Ed- |
