Marlin Magazine

Anyone read Marlin ????
Awesome Awesome ad/picture of a running Bertram 630 on page 10 or 12 in the March issue ……Water covering up the tower ….. Then they do a write up on the boat ….. claim a 37 knot CRUISE (somewhere around 175 GPH) although throughout the test ran her between 25-30 kts…… a pair of 2,000hp V16 motors , 2 - 23kW gensets, 1,849 gal in fuel and a base price of $2,470,000

And pretty pretty lines to boot !!!!

Right next to the 63 write up is the Jarrett Bay 70 ….. but that will cost you …..$3,600,000 base she dont look to shabby either !!!

Go to the 44' 1995 Garlington. I fished on this boat this year. It was custom built by Garlington himself. The only 44' around!. Great day boat, air controls top of line electronics etc., all for 500K! I have a pic of the helm and cockpit I'll send ya some where in all my crap if I can locate it

The Texaco station where that 630 pulls in for a fill-up has got to be thrilled! I took a peak at it on the Bertram website and must say that I would be lined up to buy one myself but I don't have any shiny gold 130's to stick in the rod holders while it sits at the dock for the onlookers. Oh well...

Details Details ..... the 80's and 50's will suffice ....for now

Or go to The Bertram website click on a model and take one of the 2-4 minute video tours ..... The dual vanities in the 670 met with approval of the "First Mate"

Guess BERTRAM would have been a more appropriate name for this thread !!

Scott: That Betram's lines are sooo sweet,I thought it was a Viking 61'.

That would work too

The picture of the 63 blowing through a wave in the magazine was what started it ....then I saw the write up ....To tell you the truth when Bertram changed things up a few years back I was disappointed (like I would ever need to worry about that) I just didn’t care for the euro look they were giving the boats (Hatteras too) .... but the larger stuff does look nice .... As far as production boats go ... Viking still has my heart ....they are class machines

Re: Marlin Magazine

Scott: I think for some reason the lines and proportions of the Vike 61' are unmatched, even by the other Vikes with similar lines. I see Bert really smoothed out the sheer line and got away from the "euro" look as you note...I don't like that hard angle drop-off on the sheer line of the Hatts and Berts combined with the "euro" look. That new 63' is a honey though.

Re: Marlin Magazine

I went on that boat in the pic at the St Peterburg boat show. It's all that!!! the most amazing feature is the absence of a ladder up to the bridge. It has a concealed molded in sprial staircase. I can asssure you that the other big gunns in this market will soon follow this innovation. The single biggest complaint I get in selling new sportfishes is that people don't like the ladders and want steps. Beautiful interior and woodwork as well.

Re: Marlin Magazine

Why you lucky .....
Did you get to go out on her ??

Its funny how things change ...from having no dedicated ladder to the bridge ( climbing up the side of the "house" or up the tower leg) to spiral staircases....

I guess the amount of room the stairs take up really doesn’t create space problems on something this big

Not the best picture but you get the idea

Well ...if you don’t mind getting wet .... I think that’s a wash down closet for the gear I guess we could turn off the water!!

ScottM ...weren't we talking about that this AM??

Just think Capt Brad ... Hoover would really appreciate the "crews" quarters ... A few milk bones ...a rawhide ... He'd be living the high life

Yup, I had to laugh when you posted the pic. Looks exactly like the one I saw on Nantucket last summer.

Was poking around ...Day dreaming again ....and wishing it was closer to spring and found this

Interesting point in time to open the "door"

many talented anglers can simply swim the fish through the tuna door if this sort of "raw water washdown" is in play

Re: Marlin Magazine

Thats not backing down. Backing down is when the water comes over the transom. Besides, there should be rods in the holders, spinning rods with reels up and conventional with reels down. That way you know its for real.

Re: Marlin Magazine

I laugh when I go Surfcasting in many of the touristy locales I get a kick when me and my fishin' pal show up with conventional surf reels and the tourists in the rental fleet of Penn Spinfishers see us, they flip the spinning reels upside down and start "Backwinding". Never ceases to make me laugh. We call them "Backwinders"

Mark 03-10-2004 03:54 PM

Re: Marlin Magazine

Oh man!, you mean I have been cranking upside down all these years?! I thought you were supposed to wind them back in with your hand rotating towards you, kinda calling the fish in from the sea......

Besides, I can't look at that shiny Stella or any of my fly reels when they're hanging below the rod
