New Floscan Gallons per hour test
 

Installed my Floscan on my Tsunami 350 ci.I/O,and it is one of the best things I ever did.

** 5200 RPMS----------- 21 GPH
** 3200 RPMS------------ 9 GPH
** Trolling speed--------1.5 GPH
** T8 Yamaha kicker trolling speed---doesn't even register

This was without a doubt one of the best things to have on board,especially when making long runs.I filled up the tank and put several hours on the boat.

The totalizer digital readout said that I burned 13.3 gallons.When i returned to the dock I gassed up and it took 13.25 gallons.
It's nice to see where the optimum speed vs fuel burn and economy is.No more hoping the gas gauge is right.This is going to be a big peace of mind factor when we commonly make 20 -30 mile runs.

Thats next years toy for my baby, just couldn't justify it this year...needed to put a roof on the garage to keep her in all winter.

Amen brother!!! I love my fuel flow guage, lets me know what I burn on an average trip, GPH, etc. Wish I had bought one years earlier! It now comes down to simple math versus the not so accurate gas guage.

Love my floscan. I had to replace the flow sensor on mine and once I did that it worked as advertised.

What I like about the Floscan is it allows me to make trim adjustments and watch as the engine RPM's rise and boat speed go up at the same time as fuel burn goes down. Then as you pass the optimum set the RPM's start to go down and fuel use goes back up letting me know right where to set trim for best GPH. It's a nice tool to have.

I bought the 5500 cruisemaster series.It has a needle gauge showing GPH and a digital display showing gallons used.
The also have more sophisticated all digital models that incorporate a tachometer and other data.but the cruisemaster was a lot less money and fit the bill for my use.

I have a 24' Topaz with a 350 (250 hp) Mercruiser and have looked at installing the digital tach/ flometer combo unit as gauge panel space is limited and this would drop in existing hole.

While digging thru installation details looks like an extra part might be needed - pulsation damper - for mechanical fuel pumps. Did you have to install this? Any issues?
Don't have any feel for how big the damper is and have not pursued it any further.

Sorry...disregard that last question. Ended up calling Flo-scan and their tech advised that no pulsation damper is needed if you have an engine mounted spin-on water seperator/filter..maybe I missed this detail in their install manual.

I actually ended up using two water separating filters.I installed one filter a bit up from the tank outlet.Then I mounted the sensor,after that,and then I went from the sensors outlet to the engine mounted water separator.No need for a pulsation damper,as you mentioned.

I did this because it gave me enough of a run to make the fuel line run uphill as Floscan requires.
Plus I figure with the Ethanol fuel,it doesn't hurt to have another filter.

For a little less money I installed the Lowrance fuel flow guage and tied it into the Lowrance network. The gallons per hour is the lower number on the display. I think I'll reconfigure to larger type to keep a better eye on fuel flow. That's cool!! At 3700rpm looks like 28.1 was your SOG on the Lowrance? That's a little faster than my 225 single does at 3700rpm

Thats 28 mph with full gas and two people on the boat. I may have been going with the wind so +- 1 mph. The T Top and enclosure make quite a sail. The speed on ground is with the Lowrance GPS. This prop is good midrange but not top end. It is great if you load up the boat with 5 people and thier gear. Good all around prop.
