Re: Transom Angle
Thanks. I may op for a bracket without the platform on it. I was hoping I could find a used one but they are never around when I need one.
Hopefully by December I will get started with the rebuild |

Re: Transom Angle
Yeah that is a good deal. Thanks for the heads up.
I ended up buying the one in Holden Beach. Guess one good thing is its aluminum. Not real sure what the weight difference between an aluminum and stainless would be but every little 10 pounds here 10 pounds there adds up on these 20' with a four stroke. Trying to keep as much weight out the stren as well the whole boat when I get started on the restore. Looks like I am going to raise the floor 4 inches. |
Re: Transom Angle
SC 84 are you raising the floor so much because the weighT of the 150 yami?
|
Re: Transom Angle
Yeah. Either way some scuppers or balls are going to be needed if you are going to fish in any kind of sea. I think in the sound and anchored at the beach raising the floor 4 inches would be right above water level with full fuel, 3-4 people, and gear. I am going to move the tank about as far forward as I can. Good thing about the MA is you can get away with raising the floor that high. I even considered 5 inches. I'm going to make the floor flush from stern to bow, so up at the bow the extra height is going to help out some.
Out fishing this past weekend with 3 guys, 50gal gas, 25gal bait tank under leaning post, gear and some good size swell with left over wind chop it really would not of mattered how high the floor was. I am thinking of putting a plug hole in the floor at the stern to drain what water that cant get out into the bilge then I can just pump it out. I guess I will make some sort of half inch or so drop down for the water to collect in. |
Re: Transom Angle
I'll get some new pics tomorrow of the new floor I raised it approx 3 in and have a recessed area in back to collect water. I think I'll cross the lines and run the scuppers out the transome. That should be enough to keep my feet dry.

Re: Transom Angle
Crossing the drains will help. I am going to do away with the boxes in the back so my floor will go to the transom. I may just put in some brass tubes with scupperballs. Trying to take some weight out the stern. Basically I will have the gunnels wrap around the top at the stern and come down with a lip like the rest of the top cap. Trying to keep it simple with this one. Im also going to lay another layer of glass on the sides and fair them out smooth.

Re: Transom Angle
Also if any one knows a simple way to make a fish box. I may just make my own to fit up front. Kinda like a coffin with the rounded fronts. Thanks

Check out Stricks posts for the way he made is boxes. Very good tutorial. I forgot who else in the repairs and mods did a real good job. Just look over the more recent posts. Found it. http://www.classicseacraft.com/forum...rt=&PHPSESSID= |
Re: Transom Angle
Thanks man. I will take a look at that.

On the other hand, if you DO care about fit and finish, do what strick does. Build a one-off mold, lay up your box, insulate it with sheet foam glued in place, or canned foam squirted on, and then build a similar exterior for the box the same way. As IslandTrader said, it takes a lot of planning. But I think the results are worth the effort. I'm going with strick's method because I want the finished boat to look like it had a custom restoration done by a professional. Dave |
Re: Transom Angle
I think I may go with the simple, not very pretty design. All it is going to do is be in the boat when I go fishing. A buddy of mine has all the foam I need and I am sure I will have some extra resin and cloth.
What do you think I should tape the corners with on the inside? Thanks |

Re: Transom Angle
Thanks. I love that 21 you are doing. I have been following it for a while now. What I would do to come across one of them and make it into center console.

Re: Transom Angle
Trust me a thought about it when he had it for sale earlier. I have this MA project now so I need to finish it this winter.
