Is this the old 90hp or the newer lighter one? In any case, you should see at least 5500 rpms.

Normagain 08-03-2012 08:47 PM

I want that 740s!

bitsamonkey 08-03-2012 09:20 PM

It's the new lighter DF90A. I hit the limiter at 6300 rpm and 37.5 mph.
Yeah, the 740 is nice and coming down in price. It's way faster than even the 5200 series.
I was really bragging about the 6.9 mpg.

Good to see you Bit`s.

Light is good.

You guys suck with your MPG off idle.

Cheers,
GFS

So, does the Suzuki require a special kit to convert the NMEA from the motor to give you fuel burn? I believe that's what I read when looking around. I'm looking at getting a DF140 for my 20' soon. 6.9mpg is great!

bitsamonkey 08-04-2012 01:49 PM

Yeah, you do have to configure the output with a lowrance unit or the suzuki digital multi function tach (made by lowrance). Once that's done it'll run on the Garmin or any other nema network. It was a pain, but well worth it. The fuel burn is spot on and it also displays trim, water pressure, water temp, engine hours and rpm.
My Suzuki dealer let me borrow one of the units to get it configured.

What is the top speed with that setup?

Shazaaam, great numbers. Thats what I'm talkin about. How did it do running a 95 degree bearing?

bitsamonkey 08-10-2012 09:08 PM

0.4 mph slower. I'm so impressed with this little Suzuki. I'm rehabbing my 25' Whitewater right now and it's going to hurt to see 2.5 mpg again, but there are less fishable offshore days for an 18' October - March in Miami.

McGillicuddy 08-11-2012 01:41 AM

Sweet! And fuel burn on the way out? I'm having a terrible conflict between the baby Zukes and the Etecs for the Seafari... Etec is so light and cool; love the big wheel on the Zuke. any deals out there? loans???

bitsamonkey 08-11-2012 10:32 AM

I was going through the same thing when I bought the Suzuki. I must have looked at those performance reports a hundred times. The 90 is the one that really stands out. My buddy has a etec 115 on an 18' and it's a very nice setup as well. The 90 etec does not compare favorably to the 90 zuke.

rickg 08-12-2012 12:46 PM

I also have an 18 could you get me some numbers on that etec 115 I have an old 1990 150 merc looking to upgrade

bitsamonkey 08-12-2012 09:41 PM

Can't really help you with numbers as he doesn't have any fuel management hooked up. It tops out around 40 mph.

Do you have any issues staying on plane at lower speeds? My concern is the motor only making power at higher RPMS and cant get down to a 16-18mph planing speed. Hopefully the bigger suzuki prop helps with that. I sent you a PM while back but im not sure if it ever went through. I have a few more questions about the boat/motor combo.
Thanks,
Alex.

Wow this thread really threw a wrench in my plans. Im motor shopping and was considering either an Etec 150 or a 150 Optimax.

Im going to have to research this motor too.
