Suzuki DF350 #'s

So I'm almost finished with the first 10 hrs on the engine and figured i'd post up some performance numbers on the Boat/Engine. I'm very happy with the performance of this engine and the 23 seacraft. I hadn't ever ran one before i pushed mine off the trailer and fired up the engine. I think it may benefit from raising the engine up to the last hole on the bracket and may need to go up a prop size after the rings fully seat but I really dont think it's worth the expense of 2 new props for a small gain.

1979 23' SF - Suzuki DF350A

Prop: 15.5 x 24 duoprop

Mount: Hermco Twin engine bracket mounted 1" higher than instructions (top of platform 27" above keel)

Fuel - 90 Gallons (104 gal tank) 90 Octane ethanol free

Weather: Glass calm conditions, 90 degrees

5 adults and minimal gear, T-top installed

3300 RPM - 30 MPH - 7.93 GPH - 3.8 MPG
3900 RPM - 36 MPH - 10.3 GPH - 3.5 MPG
4600 RPM - 43 MPH - 15.0 GPH - 2.9 MPG
6300 RPM - 59 MPH - 29.8 GPH - 2.0 MPG

Whats interesting, is that with 20 gallons of fuel and only me on board i get the same Max speed of 59 which is what leads me to believe it may need more prop.

Sounds like a nice sled. Sounds like there is a little more in it yet maybe. No bad #'s at all.

Let's see here, 30 mph at 3300 rpms at 3.8 mpg....with five aboard??? I would be ecstatic!!! Well done :)

Great numbers! Where are the pictures? So I guess a spare prop means both?

captainDH 06-17-2019 01:01 PM

incredible numbers! bigger is better!

Briguy 06-18-2019 12:22 AM

WOW! Same MPG or better than my '79 with a new 300. And you are pushing 60 which is crazy. She's about 6mph faster across the board at the same rpm's.

Tempted!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heres a picture from the keys last week. Wish i had my leaning post backrest installed at the time of the pic, it would have been nice to have the extra 7 rocket launchers

Sweet boat. I just put a 300 Suzuki and bracket on my 23 and fighting a porposing issue. I was wondering if you had any issues and how many inches between you AV and keel. Any info would be a great help. Thx Keith

TBubrick 07-17-2019 05:50 PM

how much is the cost differential 300 vs 350?

the performance is pretty nice it seems..

wont be over at the boat this week but about 6-7" above the keel (bottom of bracket is 4" above the keel). the lower unit and props are totally different so you'd be better off comparing to other members with a 300. Sounds like maybe a weight issue but i still don't really porpoise with a loaded yeti 110 against the transom and 100 lbs of ice in the fish box behind the leaning post. trim tabs will help but will only be a bandaid fix that will rob you of efficiency. any weight you can put up front will help with these hulls and you'll really notice it in 2-3' chop.

you may also want to check for a hook in the hull with a straightedge on the keel.

Has anyone bolted a 350 ( or motor over or around 700lbs) up to just the transom, no bracket?
On a 23
