Through Hull / Seacock
The Seacock on my NTM 73 Tsunami is frozen open. I was able to remove it and I have it soaking in a oil bath for the week. However, I'm not confident that I'll be able to get the valve closed again with out cracking the casting. It's a nice all bronze casting so I hate to lose it. Any suggestions on how to free it up?
Also, what's the proper method for reinstalling it. I was able to just spin it off the threaded thru hull fitting. Do I just thread it back on. How tight? Any sealant or teflon tape? I'm concerned about spinning the through hull while tightening down the seacock. |
Re: Through Hull / Seacock
Get rid of it and buy a new one. The last thing you want is a seacock that isn't working properly. Install with teflon tape. If your thru hull spins, it's time to redo that also.-PF

Re: Through Hull / Seacock
The through hull doesn't spin at this point. I was wondering what the odds were of it still being ok after replacing the seacock. ie is it standard practice to replace one when relpacing the other. Sounds like I should be in good shape though ... thanks. Hopefully, some one will have a new valve in stock this weekend if the old one hasn't freed up.
