Re: 135 black max on 20 seafari?
Tommy - I recently tore down a Merc 150 xr2. The XR2 is also a 2.0L merc . . . The compression in the good cylinders were b/w 115 and 120psi. The old two stroke mercs are great motors. The one weak point is the oil injection. If it's not already off . . . yank it off. You can find tons of information on the forums www.screamandfly.com or iboats.net. Good Luck!!

With the cabin its a bit heavy and 150 to 175 would be better, but I have heard nothing bad about the motors so thats not the problem.

Re: 135 black max on 20 seafari?
I have a 77 Seafari with a rebuilt 96 mercuryt 115. With the reabuild I'd say it's about at 125, and it's works just fine. Max speed is 34 MPH and I have no problem getting on plane with three grown men, tackle, bait, and beer. I save GAS too!!!!!!! As long as your not a speed deamon it would be a fine fit. Remember the seafari is only 1800 dry (no motor). I have a dream to fit my seafari with two flats jacks and twin 90 HP Optimax. One day and $16,000 later.
