Tank Bomb.
My tank in this 89 23cc is original, built in 88. It doesn't leak and I am wondering if pulling it out, cleaning it real well and using mat/epoxy to give it a good wrap is a good idea. I imagine I would get good adhesion and avoid having to dish out $8oo for a tank If it did start to leak, it would be encased and still usable. Any thoughts either pro or con?

Ha Fish On
I had thought about what you are suggesting when I was at that stage in my project but decided to replace the tank instead. I had a few things that changed my mind first off was I had bad pitting on the tank and I didn’t want to trap gas outside the tank but inside the glass lamination which could be a possible future problem, then I did not want to have to go back AFTER I had installed it to have to re do it in a year or two down the road. Plus I decided from the beginning to re do the whole boat and to save $800 now to have a potential redo in the future did not make a whole lot of sense when the total re do costs were in the low $30,000 anyway. I did not like to spend $800 for something I could not see like a seat or a t-top but now I’m glad I made that choice and hope I will never see that tank up close again. Plus it gives me a sense of safety knowing that I probably wound blow my self up one day. FellowShip _______________________________________________ My motto: Just for the Grins :D |
Re: Tank Bomb.
That lovely picture? Distracting? Totally. Offensive? Not to me!
I'd also recommend just getting a new tank, rather than trying to coat an old one. My concern would be losing the ability to see what was going on with the (metal) surface of the tank if it was covered with fiberglass. rockdoc |
Re: Tank Bomb.
I'd wait another ten years for it to start leaking and then buy a new one.

Re: Tank Bomb.
If you go to all the trouble to pull the tank, put a new one (and all hoses too) in and be done with it, otherwise keep an eye on it and wait. I have had bad luck messing with stuff that was fine until I started messing with it :D My original tank lasted 27 years.

Re: Tank Bomb.
Thanks folks,
If the average life span is > 20 years, maybe I'll just wait till the bomb goes off or I do refit. Thanks again. |
Re: Tank Bomb.
The tank on my 23 CC is leaking. Can anyone give me a hint as to where to buy one and whether or not the CC has to come off to switch them?
