outboard brackets

I need some opinions on fiberglass versus aluminum on outboard brackets. I want to put either a 300 hp Suzuki or a 250 Yamaha 4-stroke motor on a 23' center console.

Contact Don Herman on this site. His brackets for SeaCraft are reputed to be the best.

Unless you enjoy fighting corrosion, I'd go with one of Don Herman's fiberglass brackets! The salt seems to eventually get to the aluminum brackets, even if they're powder coated or painted with epoxy. Don's brackets also have the biggest flotation tank, and he's dropped his prices quite a bit since he now owns the molds and makes them himself, so I think you'll find that he's quite competitive on price.

IMHO - If Don is at all competitive, and I believe he is very much so given the quality of his work and product, I think he deserves the business just for all the good information he provides all of us "at no charge."

Just my 2 cents.

Re: outboard brackets

Long term corrision will start on the aluminum...you have to bolt anodes to them to help. The soft curves on the fiberglass bracket look better to...and Don's is made for the SeaCraft.....

Although I have not installed mine yet, I have to say the craftsmanship of my Hermco bracket is outstanding. I think if you compare apples to apples, you'll find they are the better value.

Re: outboard brackets

Notwithstanding the fact that if you install a bracket without flotation chambers, the cantilever effect of the bracket will create more downward force than the same motor connected directly to the transom.
