Finishing the inside of gunwale rod racks-- 20'MA
I have 1984 20' Master Angler and have taken the factory carpet off the hull under the gunwale rod rack area. What are people doing to finish that hull area. I see some finished boats that appear to have a nice smooth finish to that area. Are they using skin material and gluing?

for my undergunnel rod racks in my seafari i gelcoated the fiberglass (did not waste my time sanding perfect) and added green and yellow splatters (yellow hull/green bottom), i think i looks good and doesnt require a tremendous about of finish work, its one idea...

what I did on the redo of my 1978 MA was to mold some fiberglass skins with a gelcoat finish, using the outside of the boat to get the right angles, then I secured them in place using mat and resin.
here is are some pics to give you some idea http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/p...R/IMG_0309.jpg http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/p...R/IMG_0319.jpg http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/p...R/IMG_0336.jpg http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/p...R/IMG_0357.jpg |

I would just put some carpet back in - the other options seem alot of work - maybe you could figure out another major project :D

sure wish I could get somebody with a MA to trace those rod holders on a piece of paper though :D |
Re: Finishing the inside of gunwale rod racks-- 20
i used the old carpet to trace the pattern for the mold.

How about gluing a piece of formica in there. Cheap and easy. Holds up well and easy to clean. Comes in any color you want.

How about cutom seadek panels with the seacraft name cutout

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...tt2/SC62-1.jpgClean all the glue off from the carpet with wire wheel and then paint it. Primer will fill in a lot of imperfections. When you are done, you have a slight texture of the original woven roven pattern shining through. It is easy and I think looks great.
