I'm in the middle of doing some cosmetic repairs.

Re-installing existing rub rail: This had been done before, and the guy moved the screws a bit to one side. For the repair, I'm thinking that instead of using screws, I'll use 1.25 inch bolts and teflon nuts... good idea? Also, should I fill the "old" holes with 5200 or just silicone?

On there, they have a couple of rub rail installation manuals which can be downloaded. One for flexible styles and one for rigid styles. You didn't say which you are dealing with. I'd suggest you check them both out before you turn on a drill or anything else regarding your project. Good Luck.

I reused mine after a resto. and thru-bolted as well. 5200, nyloc nuts, and fender washers. No affiliation here but Warren Fasteners has way better pricing compared to West or others.

I worked at WM and learned some of the "profit margins" of some of the things they carried. Fasteners, bolts, screws, nuts, etc. probably had the highest margins in the store.
