1972 SF 20 I/O Restoration/Modification
 

I have had this boat for a couple of years, it is a project that has been taunting me. After spending countless hours reading through the forums and lusting after those restored beauties I have decided to begin my own project. I am going to attempt to photo document the process.

Nice looking boat, what are your plans for it?

I pulled out the center console and the fuel tank (which sat above the deck in the seat section of the CC). The deck is pretty soft and I would like to relocate the fuel tank below deck. I would also like to raise and widen the deck so that it extends all the way to the hull sides.

At this stage I am wanting to fire up the saw and cut the floor and sides of the liner out but I am having difficulty deciding on what to remove and what to keep in place. What, if any, benefit would there be by leaving the entire insert intact?

The inner liner stiffens the hull; in particular, if you cut the liner at the sides, you might want to consider putting a core on the inside of the hull sides to stiffen those large relatively flat panels.

havent seen or heard of any but wouldnt that lil four banger fit sweatly under the concol with a jackshaft to the i/o? would give you alot more room a the stern. dont know if you would have to raise the deck or how much ~~~~ just a thought

I finally began the tear down. The deck was in poor shape, and my stringers are full of wet foam.

Why did they not seal the top of the stringers? I have several sections of exposed foam on each stringer.

I am planning on cutting the rest of the deck out and stripping the foam out of the stringers. Also in the planning stages for a cradle.
