Boot Stripe - Size and color

3 Attachment(s)
Hello,

I'm going to paint my 1974 23' SeaCraft Fighting Lady Yellow. For a bootstripe, I wanted the same size as on the newer (yr 2000+) SeaCrafts.

Does anyone with a newer SeaCraft know what size (1 inch?, 3/4"?) the boot stipe is... and what color this is? I think it is a Black Bootstripe.

The picture is the color combo I'm going for. But my older SeaCraft will have the Thicker rub rail. (See 2nd modified Picture). That's not me in the pic, BTW, but I

Love that color combo!!!

BTW, here is the "Before" Picture... Paint is Teal or Aqua Blue. Very Faded. Nice color but I've always liked that Fighting Lady Yellow.

The new paint Job will hide the marks where it was hit by an F-350 while the boat was parked on it's trailer. Totalled the F-350, just put a few scratches on the SeaCraft, now that's tuff!!!

I wish one would hit my sled so I could get a new paint job!

I had a 2 inch boot on my 23 and it looked OK. I changed it to a 1 1/2 and it looks great.

What is the best method for applying a boot stripe? Decal or painted? The boat shop that did some work for me didn't want any part of applying a boot stripe but they did say that if I insisted they would use a decal.

My hull is blue and I want to go with an off-white boot stripe to match the gelcoat on the top sides. I am also intending to use an off-white decal for the name.

1" black !!

wider stripes will make the boat look like a tug boat !!

thinner stripes will give the ship a sleek, longer look

In my past life I use to own a vinyl graphic shop...either way you put it on(paint or tape) it is all about prep. Meaning you must be precise on pulling your line. So to do that you use something like the 3m blue tape as you guide make sure that looks good. Then you either paint in between the lines, or you allowed space and put the tape (vinyl) in-between the lines.

There is a place on line, called vinyl graphics and they have a wide selection of tape colors and sizes...plus this is tape that will hold up as a boot stripe.
