30 inch motor

So I came across a great deal on a Mercury 225 for my boat but its a 30'' shaft. So what are my options? And pros and cons? Raise the bracket? Weld a plate to the bracket to allow higher mounting?
Find another lower unit? nice motor hate to walk away from it, priced right as well.

I'm all ears guy's...

Hey Bill, get a manually adjustable jack plate. Mount it and raise as high as you can or need and then bolt it up tight. You might be able to make up the 5". See Ken's setup (Kmoose). Or do it the hard way, rebuild the transom...yuck.

I just pretty much just gave away a CMC electric jack plate with my Steiger I just sold three weeks ago.

Do you have an full transom with a bracket or open? Putting a bracket on a bracket may be I little too much.

Moose, I have a bracket with a closed transom.

What about welding a plate to the bracket? Guess I could bolt a plate on too.

This is my setup with a 30 inch motor before I adjusted the height up to where I have it now. The CMC bracket works great and as a diver I really like the ease of entry into the boat.

That could work but I think there is a bolt on solution. Let me do some research and get back to you.
