Battery Cable - wire size?

I'm installing a battery switch and need to run cable for 6'. What gauge wire should I use? This will be for a starting battery for a V-6 Outboard. Any thoughts? I was thinking #2 or #4.

Thanks,

Jim

Use the voltage drop calculator listed here: http://www.marinewireandcable.com/20...lculation.html

Jim, for 6' the #4 is good, easy. If it's for the mighty 225 Excel go with #0 welding cable, it's a bad engine!!! :)

Heres the wire size calculator I use all the time.
Need to know the max amps you'll be drawing though.

2 gauge wire going 6 feet is good for up to 200 amps.
