Question about leaning post installation

I'm getting ready to swap out the original bench seat on my 1978 20' SF with a leaning post and wanted recommendations on the distance between the leaning post cushion to the console and steering wheel. Thanks for the information

I believe the standard is 18" bet the helm and base of the leaning post..most helm pads that are sold are 16" wide..just to give you a idea but you can put wherever you feel comfortable!

I like mine really close - easier to steer sitting on the post

mine is 14"

One thing you may want to check is crowned deck vs. flat LP feet. Birdsall tweaked mine to match.

So, somewhere between 14 and 18 inches? Why would you not put it to where it is comfortable for you.

I placed my leaning post in and propped my butt on it, stood in front and leaned on it and it ended up being 14". Your posture and tummy will play a part. ;)

It’s definitely a balancing act when you stand up you needed little further back when you sit down it’s hard to reach but I must’ve ended up at 16 inches because the pad I got from capt Harry’s just fit

Don't put too close you have to consider when your running with you knees up on the foot rest and you hit a wave wrong..you don't want your knees all jammed up..JMO
